Broken washer on carburetor adjuster holder
« on: April 22, 2013, 08:09:31 AM »
Ugh- I broke the washer that holds together the 2 carburetor adjuster holders on my CB 550 k1
It just sort of crumpled apart as I was tightening the nuts under the adjustment screws when sync-ing my carbs

The part is pictured right under the number "29" on this fiche image-

Its actually part of part #11 and unfortunately is not sold on its own...only as part of a $100 carburetor part

It seems like this part just keeps things aligned and happy but its kind of a drag that it broke...any good ideas or any one have an extra one they don't need?

I think the part number you are looking for is:

16139-323-004

Not incredibly easy to find, but seems to be available from some sellers.

I know this may be bad, but I broke mine too and run it without them. I think a good vacuum sync would correct  any alignment issues initially, but down the line could cause issues.

Does anyone know wtf the point of it is?

What the point of the washer is?
I think its to hold the holder arms in place so that they don't move and up down grinding up against anything.  Theres not a lot of clearance between them and the tops of the carbs

Thanks for the part info, by the way!

Others seem to be running their bikes without the part with no issues-

Interesting the parts list defines it as a "dust plate"
I guess I'll probably live on without it as it seems to be hard to find

Very common for them to just disintegrate or break apart.  I see it all the time.  If they break they are just toast, so be it.  As mentioned, they are just a dust/debris shield as there are two springs in each little connector.

If you really want one I will send you one.

thin stainless looking springy part,,you can get by with out it ok,if you can get one easy enough though fit it,,your bike will run fine with out it,,it takes a little load of the springs in the rest of the link system so they balance as you crank it open.

The originals on 550F1 were stainless, mine broke probably 30 yrs ago, never bothered to fit new ones in 70,000+ miles

Got a spare rack for a CB350F and each pair of carbs has what looks to be the same sort of item.  One was broken on the set I got, so I fabricated a similar piece out of a sheet of thin stainless I had around.  Was able to cut and shape the piece with snips and file, and then drilled two holes at the same distance apart.  Fitted on fine and seems to allow both carbs to be activated/controlled more accurately together in unison.
