please help! carp pressure on bench..
« on: April 11, 2013, 05:36:03 PM »

After digging into my 78 cb750K carbs, the PD style carbs, I got them all back together and sitting on the bench I pulled the throttle and only numbers 2 and 4 sprayed fuel but it was a stream that shot across my little shed. I figured out that the accelerator nozzles on 1 and 3 were clogged and I unclogged them. Now I only get a week little squirt outa all 4 carbs when I pull the throttle  back on the bench. Should there be more pressure? They don't spray all the way through the carb, is this normal??? any suggestions would be awesome thanks!!!

What did you clean the nozzles with? If you hogged out the discharge holes, the increased diameter will reduce pressure.

Remove the fuel tubes that connect each carb in the accel pump circuit. There are 3. Verify each of these tubes is clear, and, that each contains 2 small brass restrictor tubes.  These are there to increase pressure through the pump circuit. If yours are not there, this would explain the weak squirt. Can't be fixed with a blue pill.  ;D  While the tubes are off, spray carb cleaner in each of the nipples the tubes came off of to verify the route to the squirters is clear.

The brass tubes are in there and the passages are clear, could it be a float bowl issue? I messed with them a little but may have fudged it up? :/

Rest a straight edge across your pilot jet.  The floats should be at that same level.
If you manually depress the accel pump rod, with your slides are raised, you should get fuel out the other sides of the carbs.
if the squirt pressure is still not adequate, you'll need to take a look at the ball check valve on the rim of the #2 bowl(shoot carb cleaner up through it), clear the mickey mouse ears of the diaphragm, and check it for tears.
it may take a few depressions of the accel pump to work all the air out of the system.
dont put your carbs back on until its right  ;)
