yikes...cb750 graveyard.
« on: April 12, 2013, 01:30:59 AM »
"Hey guys I'm going to collect about 1200 motorcycles, mostly cb750s and store them in the woods For 20 years.  Sound ok?"

Damn, a roof would have made this guy a nice fortune.

But least I'm only 20 miles from this guy...actually found a great set of 064A carbs, cleaned up beautifully.

Guess they all have to go somewhere to die.  Are his prices fair or does he feel he is sitting on a pot ' o gold. ?  One pic shows a gold pair of headlight ears, not sure if K1 750. If the prices are cheap I would play SOHC Picker and carefully go through there and get the good stuff piece by piece. Look for plastic chainguards and other desirable items.

There are definitely some good finds in that mess.  I found a carb bank 064A type, the slides
Were frozen in place but came loose after a good soak, spiffed em up and there actually pretty nice, 50 bucks.  He also just let's people hack at the bikes with no supervision, so you can imagine how
That goes.

When I'm done with my current bike I plan to pull an engine and see what I can do with it.

Seems a bit unorganized but at least he laid some pine trees over on them to prevent them from blowing away.  Seriously, it hurts just to see that carnage.

A lot of those old junkyards were put together back in the 70's and 80's,early 90's when the machines did not have very much value at the time. Think a person nowadays would be hard pressed to find enough of them as cheap as they were bought then to do it again.Kind of a surviving vestige of the 'good old days',similar to a drive in movie house.

There is one between fayetteville and southerpines that I pass by at work.  I saw a 350 scrambler sitting on top of a mass grave of old cbs.

I see some CL pipes, but most likely rusted through.  That is the issue, parts sitting out in the weather become corroded.

Yes those pipes and heat shields look like CL175 1972/3, very difficult to find in a usable condition.

Wow. Imagine all of them in pristine shape all sitting side by side.

Where at? Are there any decent bikes there?

Back around '79 or '80 my dad and I were buying parts for the old Yamaha 350 in my signature. We found this guy that had 2 floors of an old warehouse on the near southwest side of Chicago right off I-55 around California filled with motorcycles and parts.

I visited it several times, there was one section where he had at least 6 complete Triumph Tridents. Even at age 13-14 to me the place was like a pirate's cave full of treasure.

That would be cool, an indoor junkyard.  Parts are probably a lot better than what were seeing from op
