« on: March 27, 2013, 11:20:33 AM »
i want to redo my wire harness, but still use the facotory colored wires.  does anyone know where i can buy these wires.  I can obviously get black, white, red from the autostore, but where do you get the odd colors like Green/White, Black/Red, etc?

Main harness? Buy a new one..
http://www.cb750supply.com/products/5/electrical/55/wiring-harnesses-batteries-and-charging-system-parts

For segments beyond the main harness...it is tricky to find short bits - auto electrical suppliers might have it - but as suggested - only in larger quantities. I resorted to buying closest match e.g red instead of red/white and labelling the wire with a printed tag and documenting in my "black book" for future debugging when I've forgotten - or sold the bike on. I also scavenged some wires from used parts - eg  winkers and hand controls and stripped out the still pliable segments and keep them for other places.

I use old wiring harnesses.
The center part that was wrapped up is usually in very good condition.

Easy to say for a 750 owner. I don't know what bike the SocoMoto has, but I've yet to come across a wire harness for my CB500K1.

First choice would be to buy a used bike harness.

Personally, I don’t use ‘automotive’ wire, especially the crap sold a your local auto store. If you do use auto wire, go to the nearest ‘pick and pull’ yard and buy a chunk of a harness out of a junk car with the colors you need. OEM wiring is much better the auto store stuff. You might even get some nice connectors too. A lot of the OEM wiring today uses waterproof connectors, similar to Deutsch connectors. Good stuff.

When I’m doing a bike harness, I use marine grade wire. Much different, relative gauge sizes are a little heavier, and the wire is tinned. Marine wiring generally uses only crimp terminals, not soldered terminals. Better. Soldering makes the copper brittle at the solder, and vibration can fracture the wire. (I also do marine wiring to ABYC standards.) You can buy lots of different colors of marine grade wiring in small reels online. I buy a lot of marine wiring stuff from Defender Marine.

Thanks for the help!, what about the battery wires(negative and positive wire that goes to the starter relay)?  what gauge are they and what are you guys doing to extend the wire to the newly relocated battery?

A while back, someone posted the suggestion of salvaging wire from an automobile harness. Clearly, there are tons of junked Japanese cars whose harnesses should be available. So, last week, I cut some of the harness out of a Subaru. However, when I got it home and unwrapped the wire bundles, I discovered that almost all of the wire was smaller than 18ga, in other words: useless.

The search continues.

Try these too:

Would be cheaper to buy a new harness than purchasing wire from these guys.

Rhode Island Wire is also a great source for the odd color pattern wires. They only charge $0.20 a foot. Their site kinda sucks but if you give them a call they are really helpful.
