CB550 Horn issue
« on: April 13, 2013, 10:27:37 AM »
So my horn seems to cut in and out. I'll be riding, and the horn will work just fine.  Other times, I'll hit the button and get nothing.   I can hear it click, and the headlight will dim to pretty much nothing, but no horn sound.  If I take the horn off and touch the leads directly to a battery, it beeps. Tried two different horns, and eventually the same thing happens with both.  Battery has a good charge.
I've cleaned all the connections and inside the switch. Checked for exposed wiring.  still nothing.

What else can I check?

depends on your wiring as there are two types
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Just tried touching the light green wire to the frame, and the horn sounds. So the problem has something to do with the light green wire not getting grounded by the horn button.

Ok, I guess I didn't clean the switch as well as I thought. Went at it with a wire brush and now the horn is working.
