If you trim those bolts up and round off the edges and make it look pretty that is essentially the frame kit, you did it correctly. Spend 10 mins with a grinder and dremel and it will look great

If it's noisy and not running right my guess would be a bent valve hopefully without damage to the piston when it hit. If it's this bad it's locked up. Missed 1 to 2 at WFO.

......and kept riding for 20 miles. ;D

Not real lucky! Bike had 5-6K miles, less than 1 year old, engine trashed and I was offered $500 for the whole $1800 bike as is. That piston (or better yet the weed and the purple passion I was drinking) at Daytona in 1976 when I was attempting to clean off the sparks plugs prior to very confidently taking on a 900 Kaw straight up is what turned me into an unqualified CB750 to 812 to 900 (see NEW piston) and upcoming 1000 wrench  ;D  I'm still learning and getting better. I've kept that souvenir all these years but I did lose track of the valve head somewhere along the way.

Michael, I wasn't THAT messed up to ride it 20 more miles! Buzzed, yes! Hey, I was 24 OK ;D and there was NOT a piece of tail that got turned down either (as long as no one saw me). It went BAM somewhere between 10,000 and 12,000+ when I missed 2nd. Bad habit of not letting off the throttle (I now have a Dyna 2000 with rev limiter set at 10,000 with much stronger springs). When they go BAM you shut them down. I immediately pulled the clutch, pulled over, got off, looked for oil leaks and massive holes caused by rods (no leaks/holes), hit the starter button (nothing), jumped on the kick starter (fn locked), then told the Kaw guy to go get the trailer and some help.
