I don't think those wheels have a real trad look, but your bike does.
Not that they were not used back in the day, but they are a bit busy looking.

I agree with Frank. A Henry Abe would definitely look very busy in the rear maybe a five spoke Invader would look more appropriate on a old school chop or if you're lucky even a hallcraft satellite.

I do like the Lesters.
Haven't seen an invader in a while, that does have the old school look.

I kind of thought that the added "interest" of the Henry Abe would add some spice to a relatively simple bike.
Will have to ponder things.

Still unpacking, and still finding cool junk.

I saw this dizzy set up on a bike in a CL add in TX.
Guy was open to parting out, but really wanted to sell it whole. Bike had a few other trick road race parts on it, but the dizzy was what I wanted.

Figured I had missed out.

THEN someone on the soho forum popped up talking about how he wanted to buy it for some of the parts and sell off the rest.
We tried to make a deal on the dizzy, but things went quite.

YEARS latter a guy on FB posted that he was parting out this bike and didn't know what most of the stuff was.
We struck a deal and I got the part!

It really is super cool.
Obviously not a performance piece in the modern world as a Dyna S will shock the hell out of this.

But, I just love weird old junk like this.
Unsure if I will rebuild this, or just run the ARD.

Thoughts?

will probably be getting rid of a set of those Hallcraft Satellites, but the rear is meant to fit a cb750...not sure how much that matters on a hardtail where you are probably going to be playing with wheel spacers and chain alignment anyway. I know it will be hard to find a rear sprocket with less than 45 teeth

maybe you have not seen these before. I never had until I bought this bike.

If i had a 750 id be all over those hallcrafts. I have a set of 8 spoke vaders im going to "try" to make work on a cb550. Wish me luck Sean lol

And another 5 months goes by with zero progress.
It is my last project bike, maybe it is time to call it quits.

Just picked up a Ducati Monster S4 to ride and enjoy.
On the hunt for a Bimota as well.

Just can not seem to get the steam to work on the chopper.

I'd toss in the spare. Quick and easy. If everything is set in place it only takes about a hour to do the choppa harness.

DAMN! Dont run out of steam for this project, I love, love, love period correct choppers! I love everything about this one and would love to hear and see it done and running especially cause you've been salivating over it for some time. Did you check out that mag wheel for the 550 i linked earlier?

I just got the seat finished for the one i built out, I had it posted in the wrong spot....hopefully it gives you some motivation. BY THE WAY I think you should just do your motor swap bare minimum wire harness and ride that puppy. If i waited around for motor rebuilds I wouldnt be riding a damn mile lol. GOOD LUCK!

I go back and forth on it almost daily.
One of the main reasons for not listing it, is they just are not worth ANYTHING.

Did get the work bench cleaned up this week. Have to build a CT70 for for a friend.
Most of the Chopper bits are laid out already. Also moved the spare motor to the work bench too. Probably is the move to just toss it in and work out some kinks.

Honda choppers dont have great value. Seems the resto crowd is where the money is at these days. My rat chopper will never be worth anything but i build stuff for me anyways.

Honestly I think most of the market for 70s Japanese bikes has moved on.
There really isn't a "rush" of people spending real money on any of them any more.
Restorations still don't bring what original bikes do as well.

Makes sense really.
Most people getting into "vintage" are looking at 90s stuff.

Idk about you guys but Ive been watching Phil White out of Waterford, MI sell his restorations and restomods for 7-9k a pop and he MAYBE has to wait 2 weeks tops before its sold. The market is def wishy washy. Ive had out of state buyers drive 6-7 hours to buy running 750s here in Michigan. Choppers are a dead end, you are building those for yourself and you cant give them away...you can at the most list it for what you've got into it but even that is a lost cause...there are some really beautiful choppers for sale in MI now...much nicer than mine, very little or no rake and much easier to ride than mine, all new parts, shines bright...but still sitting "for sale". The cafe, brat, tracker crowd is weird and ebay doesnt make it easy to gauge what is actually selling for what price....i've seen multiple sold listings for the same bikes at different prices. From what i've seen it looks fairly manageable to sell them around 4-6k if you know who you are doing, have some creative talent and taste. For example...this bobber for sale around me was listed for 6k before...now 5k...this is a no no. Im guessing this is my "i don't want to sell" price or "my wife made me sell it price"...or he is just crazy. Even the ad kinda tells me not to waste his time with lower offers..he just isn't hearing it, its NOT what the person who is willing to spend 5-6k on a honda is looking for.. I think if you are breaking the bike down, cleaning and resurfacing small bits and making the important upgrades, and the RIGHT LINES then it can be done...Hondas are cheap, easy to work on and ALREADY LOOK GOOD....most people just make them look worse and its a shame because its so easy to keep the lines on a honda attractive.

No need to waste it on unoriginal and poorly built cafe junk.

I just bought a 916 superbike powered monster for well under 4K.

Have you guys seen the prices of RC51s?
90s-00s is where it's at right now.

50s-70s stuff is cool and fun.
People like to see it and wax poetic about about....but when it comes to spending actual money?

Have you ridden a chopper much ? Set up right, you can do lots of miles.
And you can have huge fun without being ticket bait...

Laws a around here have really killed it for sportbike owners. .
