Jacket fit......any skinny guys??
« on: July 22, 2006, 09:38:23 PM »
So I rode wearing a helmet and jacket for the first time the other day, only thing is, the jacket is just an old levi's jacket that is definitely too loose for riding. The wind drag/flapping was honestly really distracting! Tried on a handful of jackets at Chicago Cycle today and left without feeling like any fit well. My problem (with any clothes really) is that i'm 6'3" and probably 170# dripping wet. So to get the sleeve length that my arms need usually means things are too big the rest of the way around. Just for reference if I was buyin a dress shirt I'd usually wear a 15.5 collar, 34/35 sleeve, and if it's made in a "slim fit" even better. Anyway, having tried on maybe 10 jackets there, any of you guys the same build as me, or know some brands that might run fairly trim??

Contact sales@olympiamotosports.com   and ask if they can do any custom work/adjustments.  We are selling a ton of the Olympias lately. The guy I work with is really skinny and he loves his, but his arms are "normal".  You got me wondering so I'm going to check that out myself.

Thanks, just shot 'em an email. I'm still going back and forth about my price point, cos a custom is definitely going to cost as much or more than my bike did. But then, if you've got something with a perfect fit, sometimes the price doesn't matter as much.........

Sometimes you get what you pay for.  When it comes to some things like tools, I was taought to get the best you can afford- wrenches, paint brushes, and jackets, too.  They last longer and fit better.   The Olympia is somewhere between a Joe Rocket and Aerostitch.
No, I don't have stock...

Don't know what your budget is but check out Aerostich Rider Warehouse in Duluth, MN.  The Roadcrafter comes in 1 and 2 piece and is Tailor fit.  Typically its sized by your suit size.  You can tell them your measurements over the phone and they will mail you a suit to try on and when you find your right size they custom make it for you.  The suit is about $700 and just  for the coat only its around $400 I think.  You get 10% off you pick it up in the store in Duluth.  Just got a 2 piece roadcrafter this spring and I couldn't be happier.  The jacket it about the best thing since sliced bread ;D  Pretty much everything in their catalog is the sh!t...I love those guys

thanks for more suggestions.

Anybody have any experience with Fieldsheer?? I've spent waaayyyy too much time scouring the web today, and from a whole lot of reviews I've read about them, "sleeves run long" and "tight fit" seem to be a general consensus so maybe I'm in luck. Two dealers within five miles too so I know what i'll be doing on my day off tomorrow!

EDIT: it would really help if any of the so called "dealers" they list on their website actually carried or could even order any of their products!....bastards......mumble mumble........

I have a fieldsheer.  I think it is a called the motobar leather.  I got it on sale (i think its 2004 model) a little while back for about $150.  The size large(44) fit is just about perfect for me, but im about 6-3 195lbs.  I could use a tiny bit longer in the sleeves but I think and XL would be too big.  I am fairly slim and with a sweater on under the jacket it fits snug.  With just a T shirt under there is a little wiggle room.  Overall I am very happy with the jacket, my only complaint is that when you open the chest and back airvents at highway speed it feels like youre wearing a damn parachute.

I am an inch shorter than you and maybe 5# heavier. I just got a Tourmaster Flex jacket from www.newenough.com in size L. The jacket is pretty adjustable in the waist and arms. It has armor and can be configured for all but the absolute hotest and coldest weather. NewEnough ships fast and responds to customer service questions pretty promptly as well. The jacket was under $200 with shipping and shipped the same day.

Finally got hold of Olympia and they don't mod jackets.  Looks like Aerostitch may be the way to go unless you want leather.  For custom jackets, I think Wilson used to do that. Well, it's been a few years...

Thanks so much for all the input guys, seriously.

I know half of'em will probably tell me to read their sizing chart, but i've emailed all the companies you guys mentioned just to see if they've got any guidance/suggestions.

I'm probably going to have to order something without trying it on first, but with the digging around i've done and the info you guys have given me, it's at least an educated effort now.

Thanks again guys, and I'll post here again when I finally get into one that I like.

I'm 6' and slim, with a sleve length of 34/35. I have a Fieldsheer "Track" jacket in a size "Large". It seems to fit me very well overall. Perhaps a little too large at the waist, but only by a 1/2" or so.

I like it. With all of the vents wide open, I have not noticed the parchute problem with this jacket that ceej mentioned. It also keeps me quite dry when it rains. Wish I had the matching pants for it.
