750 PD carb question..

There is 2 slide types. Plated brass, and black anodized.
 
 Question, did  the adjustable needles only come with the one slide type, or on some of both..?

My carbs are stamped PD41B and has plated brass slides and adjustable needles. Pat

Pd41A & B's came with adjustable needles, I think on the 77k. The pd42's on the 78 didnt have adjustable needles, but I don't know about the slides so that my no help you out much.

my 42b's are plated brass and have a fixed needle position(shims necessary)
'78 750K (F3 engine) PD42b's, Modified airbox w/K&N  filter, 40/110 jets, 1 needle shim, IMS@ 1 turn out. Kerker + Cone 18" QuietCore

On a side note and sorry to thread jack, but. Is there any difference in the slide cut away from the pd41's to the 42's?

Next time I feel the need to wrestle the airbox and carbs off my bike I most likely will Lucky, for the time being I'll just ask if anyone else knows the answer. This is a forum after all...

@flybox haha, I do have a set of each. Only one is sitting one is sitting on my bench though, I'm surprised Lucky is even in a pd carb thread. Seeing as he hate the damn things haha.

The reason I gave that answer was not to be a smart ass but because almost no one will have the answer to that question.

The only way they could answer that question is they have both slides and a vernier calipers and feels like doing it for you.

I do not hate them.

I just feel that the earlier 69-70 carbs are much easier to work on.

If you could just measure the one you HAVE, then another member of the forum may have the other one. Then you can get the info that you want.

I have a 78 750K and the slides are chrome, not black or brass. The needles themselves are brass. On 78 they did away with the adjustable needles. The 78K carbs have mixture scews NOT airscrews. You richen the idle
mixture by using those screws.

The slides on my 77 750F PD's are the same way but don't don't know yet if needles are adjustable.

I canmeasure a brass one its out, and i have a black one that is dirty..might be able to get it out..
So to answer my question 77 haf adjustable needle used in 2 types of slides.

 I measured. Both slides, cutaway appears to be the same.

 Looks like 2 needle types. The brass slides appear to have, needles with the marking ending with an E. The black slides look like they have an F. Anyone know which is preferable.

 Another note, the brass slides are. 80 grams,the black ones are only 27.7 grams ..that is a HALF POUND extra..part of why the late bikes are heavier.

I am not sure of the K7, my K8 which is 100% original has chromed slides. I know this because I had to free them up and I polished them. Honestly, I have had them out twice and they are very light. I assume you are not the original owner. These bikes may have passed through sevral hands before people got them.
