they're talking about repealing the helmet law in michigan--though i think it was defeated. i'd still wear one, and do when i'm in ohio, but i started thinking, what if they had jacket laws? boot laws? leather pants laws?

Depends on what type of riding I'm doing. On the highway or long trips, the full-face. For just around town, the half. Sometimes I'll do the 3/4 helmet in colder weather.

i forget where I was reading it, but a SIgNiFICANT portion of head injuries sustained in crashed are to the chin/front of face.
Plus my dad and older brother are dentists, so...I know how much it cost to put all those broken teeth back in your broken head.

One in three accidents ends up with your chin taking a gravel bath................ so why would you wear anything else than a full face?

Yea I have a friend of a friend who had to have his jaw re-attached after a run in w/ a left turning car... That and the couple of close calls I've already had w/ bad motorists (only going 20-30mph) made the decision easy for me... Full helmet at all times... here in WA we have a helmet law and it is pretty strict (must be DOT, no "novelty" helmets) I saw I guy today w/o any and I would bet if he went more than 5 miles he got a citation (especially in my over policed town). I might get a modified or Hybrid one if it has a good metal latching system (but I've gotten real good at putting my glasses on through my visor, so maybe not...)

Gotta try modular, since I have prescription eyeglasses...used to ride trails and had a full face, different from a street helmet I know, but what a pain with the glasses

Shoei Syncrotec is fantastic, but pricey. The HJC CL-Max has the same features, but is not so well built, which is reflected in the lower price. For my comfort they are both about the same...and they make putting glasses on a breeze.

Forgot to comment. As long as a helmet lasts five years I'm not too fussed about 'build quality' (assuming it meets DOT or Snell standards). I change out my helmets after five years, maximum, anyway. Unless, that is, they have been hard used (dropped a few times), in which case i change sooner.

A helmet on my head has already saved my life once, so I don't need persuading about the merits of keeping up on good head protection!

I can see what you mean; I took a good spill riding trails once, head hit the bars first, then the tree I flew into, then the ground. I still remember what I was thinking during the crash "I love this helmet,I love this helmet!"
It wasn't a very serious crash, but still scared me pretty good.

Always rode a full face. Bought a full face modular this time which lets you enjoy the whole cigarette before take off, but Ive always associated modulars with the goldwingers so I dont show it off.

Yeah, I really like my new Nolan "Flip Front" helmet, it oworks really well, and is actually quieter than my Shoei was.

I need to wear it on my K1 Kruiser once it cools down a bit here in southern Oz, my open face helmet is always trying to jump off, I guess it doesn't feel safe being too close to me at high speed, ha ha!

My generalization about my goldwinger comment needs addmended. My opinion is based on one man and one bike that I know personally. I wouldnt mind test riding one and I sure dont want to offend anyone who does. Besides, it a honda and I cant badmouth that...

Always with a full face. About a month ago, I got in an accident and was unconcious for about 10 min...no broken bones, just bruised, but my helmet had road marks on face shield and was cracked at the back. Without it, I would not be here. Full face is the ONLY way to go if you care about surviving an accident IMHO.

Funny, I have a photo very similar to that one, only my helmet was red.

Full face, every time, no exception. It amazes me that people choose fullface a majority of the time(the polll is at about 60% at this posting) yet you mostly(not in this thread)only hear that "helmet laws suck".

Normally i ride with a half helmet, and just clear glasses. It's not to hot, and i can hear well.

On longer rides i have a full face with the chin bar that flips up. excellent helmet, but it's hot when ridding around town in stop and go traffic.
