1968 cb77
« on: April 15, 2013, 04:56:44 PM »
figured i would post this up here since im a member and we like all kinds of bikes. picked this cb77 up over the weekend. got it from the original owners daughter. sat in the garage since 1974. rolls over has good compression and the tank is in great shape on the inside with no rust. overall the bike is in ok shape. i have no doubts it will run. i have the original warranty card and service records book that are both in good shape. she had called yesterday and found the original plate that it came with in 68 when it rolled off the floor at the dealer. also will be getting the original bill of sale when it was bought. he bought it for $650 in march of 68. very cool to have all the info on it and i am happy to get to ride it. was thinking about selling it but i dont know if i can.

Nice, keep it! My first bike was a 1965 CB77. What's all that white crap on the ground - it's April for goodness sake's!  ;D  Cliff.

yes stev-o its about 30-45 minutes from me

yes i will be cleaning it up the best i can. i am not changing nothing or modifying anything. it may get new tires but not sure. it has the original tires on it still. for now i am cleaning it up and gonna ride it. have to go to the secretary of state to see how i can use this plate since its the original plate and i want it on there. i know these go for a good some of money but i dont think even after i get it on the road i could sell it. it would have to be the right number if so. i just think its very cool to own a very old bike like this. after all it is 17 years older than i am lol.

I did a ground-up on the same bike. Mine was registered as a '68 as well. Honda's last one was really a '67, but they got registered when they were sold. Someone added those turn signals and the seat isn't original, but it's very rare to find them with the original pipes still there. Are the pipes solid? Holes?
Also lucky to have all the side covers and an intact front fender. Everyone bobbed the fender when they were kinda out of style.
This place has a lot of reproduction parts, and they're very nice people.... http://www.classichondarestoration.com/honda-cb72-cb77/cat_3.html

Also Western Hills Honda in Cincinnati has parts.

Unlike the CB750's there's very little available from Honda. Good Luck! Nice find! John.
Don't hesitate to ask me questions, should they arise. John.

Those guys are just up the road from me and super knowledgeable. Small 60's/70's Honda and CBX's seems to be their niche. Nice score on the BLUE CB77.

CB72 was the first 'proper' bike I fell off.
Would love to get hold of a CB77 but the chance of it happening is slim to none.
Found out last week I have a fractured vertebra as well as 2 herniated discs, been unemployed almost 2 yrs with zero job prospects, not much call for 'broken' motorcycle techs

yes the pipes from what i cant tell are solid and ready to go besides the rust which i will remove very carefully. i figured the from signals were added and those will be taken off for sure. the seat im not so sure about. if i remember correctly the picture from 68 when the bike was first brought home had that seat but i may be wrong. i will have to wait and see when i get the picture. yes the side covers are both there and in pretty good shape. both air filters are very clean also. i have to go and have the key made but no big deal. it will stay bone stock for sure. also i thought 67 was the last year for the cb77's but this confused me so thanks for clearing that up for me. thanks for the links ill check them out. i may have some questions for ya

crazypj that doesnt sound very good. hope your ok and feel better.

toytuff thats a nice looking bike. i would have picked it up myself for the right price. ya ill keep it bone stock. just gonna do a light restore and clean it up the best i can and enjoy it as much as i can

Nate, I had a hard time finding anyone to cut a key. Honda blanks either never existed or they're scarce as hens teeth. Do a search on the internet, there's tons of Honda keys floating around, pre-cut, and some people deal in them. Just use the number on the key barrel to do a search.  My key is very rare, and I can't find a new one anywhere, my old one is getting pretty fragile.

I've never seen a seat like that, although they got the tip-up on the front right. I suspect it's over the original seat pan. They would have for sure had the Honda logo on the back.....Everything of that era had it on. Covers are cheap.

i had my other honda key cut last year with no issues and was like $16. i would think he would be able to cut it. this key shop has been in our town for a very long time and everybody goes to him. older guy to so i will try and see if he can. i never thought about that cover being over the original seat. its very stiff and hardly any cushion. after you saying that im thinking the original seat cover may still be on it since its so hard. ill have to check that out and see what i find. thanks and no i havent joined there yet but i have been on there reading.

got it up and running decent for now. went and got it legal today. rode it around town for awhile. i will say it is a very cool bike to cruise around on. i enjoyed riding around. no crazy speeds just enjoying the bike. still a good amount of cleaning to do but at least shes on the road now. heres a video from a few days ago. thought the headlight was burnt out but it was the hi/low switch. cleaned it up and it works great now.

Wiring Loom and control
White.
I know in German there is no double 'U'  (W) as W is pronounced as V (I had an english teacher named Widder who explained it)
Is it the same for you?

How do you walk then?   ;D

Sorry had to do it...............................wish I could speak more than 1 language and some would say I am not good at this one.

The lamp would be a high beam warning as I remember, the oil pressure I believe would be very low with that little piston pump and the wiring very simple then, only basics.
