Dave Kerby Honda 500 single with a twin carb conversion.
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:38:52 AM »
I read a post on the forum from Chris Tyler written in March 2010 about Dave Kerby and the Kerby Honda's he made.
Clive Somerfield has two of his machines, over the winter both have been stripped and restored.
I run a fabrication and welding business and helped with some of the work on the tank, frame and exhausts, Clive and Dave Kerby did all of the rest.
Monday night we fired it up for the first time, search for "Linear Projects Welding and Fabrication Services" on facebook and look for the "Kerby Honda" Album, there are a few photo's and video's that show Dave Kerby, Clive and the bikes.

Is this a modified GB500? Pretty cool!

The bike is a Kerby Honda race bike built in 1980.
The engine started life in a FT 500 road bike, this bike used a modified XR 500 off road bike engine but with the addition of a deeper sump and oil filter, both bikes run single carbs and as far as we know this is the only one running twin Mk2 30mm Amal Concentric's.

Welcome! Be forewarned, this thread will most likely get moved to the "other bikes" area, as it is not an SOHC 4. I'm also interested in which model that thumper is.
PS you will need to have a minimum of 5 posts before you can post external links.

I just did a quick search and can't find anything about an ST 500?? Are you sure it was not an FT 500?

Sorry, typing error, I meant FT 500, I have changed it.

I have been a fan of the FT500 (it was called the Ascot in the States, I don't know if that name carried over to the UK) since it first came out when I was in my late teens. It's on my list of bikes to own one of these days.

I have an '82 FT myself, plus a hot-rodded XR motor. I'm planning on using the cam and Mikuni carb from the XR on the FT.
