Steve I am sure you have seen or followed this 500 that Rick Brett bought at mid Ohio for $5,000 in 2015. He really loves that bike. Couple of different videos and I think he had a whole link dedicated to it when his forum was up and running. Remember another vid where he was riding it in a group ride around the Traverse City area and another I think when they actually got it running at Mid Ohio after buying and he was riding it around there.  That guy is a real hoot !

Oh yeah, he had a thread on it on the Triples forum.  Unbelievable really!

On a side note, I never did hear about his annual birthday bash in MI this year?

The bike is coming along nicely. The carb finish is awesome!
The clamps fit at the end of the header pipe and butt up against the muffler clamps. I have never understood what they are for, possibly to stop the header flange from falling off the header when it is removed from the engine?

Thanks.   A member on the Triple's forum also replied that the clamp goes there, I dont get it either. Both the header and the muffler are securely fastened, I'm not going to install it unless I see the need once running or someone gives me info why it is necessary.

Seen a set of those exact pipes at a swap meet a while ago. They looked great.
Those carbies look good too. I got mine done on the RD and look brand new.

Couldn't dig the auction out of his website yet for more pictures but looks like some descent stuff. See a "1969 CB750" also.  The online bidding may make for some higher prices if word gets out.  I have not had good luck the last few auctions I have gone to trying to buy a descent bike. Seems the cream rises to the top.

Dave - that blue '72 H2 would be a good bike to pick up as well.

Ha....yeah, they can be.  The H series parts can be very pricey compared to the Honda parts.

Here's an H1 tank if you need one for that '69.....

Root beer may be back in style soon  ;)   https://gearheads.org/coming-soon-kawasakis-retro-z900rs-with-supercharged-models-to-follow/

Yeah, saw that. Will be unveiled next month in Tokyo, rumored price for the basic model will be $13K, cheaper than I thought.
Cant imagine it with a super charger, Kaw may be back on top?

It will be fun to see how it all shakes out. See there is a 1975 Z1B that looks fairly original that was up to a whopping 50 bucks and a few triples that may have a title and some other stuff 2 stroke and 4 that I will be curious to see. Lot of pain there also as a lot of those crotch rockets had some serious front end damage-OUCH  ;)

The bad:

There appears to be an issue with the oil pump and/or oil supply lines.  At least one of the oil lines that supply two stroke oil to the crankcase show rather large air gaps in the oil. Upon further investigation, no oil was passing through the L check valve at the crankcase, and all of these parts of course are NLA.
Dont worry, the motor has been run with premixed fuel to properly run the motor, running time has been minimal and it killing me! I am dying to ride this bike!!

I posted a parts needed thread on the Triples forum and a member in Hawaii responded rather quickly, I asked to ship priority and just received them today.  However, the parts have been sitting and are untested, so I am not positive this is as easy as slapping the pump and oil lines in and go.

The problem with at least one of my oil lines is the check valve, it appears to be stuck - no oil passing through. And for some reason, Kw=awsaki made these unserviceable. Looking at my [disassembled] H1 motor in my garage, the earlier check valves were serviceable.  I'm looking for info on how to modify the existing line.
Here is a pic to compare the two lines, the serviable H1 line is on the top...

Steve, do you have an ultrasonic cleaner? I wonder if you could free up the check valve with solvents and possibly some application of compressed air .

But in any event, great milestone! It won’t be long now!

No ultrasonic cleaner, Nils.  I was shopping for one a couple months ago but never pulled the trigger [was going to use it for the bag of hardware that came with this bike]

Have to be very careful using compressed air, these check valves normally only see 4-6 psi.  My buddy has some type of old school tool that we are going to test these "new" lines with, headed to his shop tomorrow.

You've been a busy little beaver on that thing.  Good that you are really taking your time and catching that stuff and doing it right. You soon will be rewarded with a terrifying ride  :D  Anxious for the first report !

This bike has been a challenge from start to finish, and not yet finished!   But it has really been a learning experience, don't restore an H2!  (Joking)

My goal was to have a rider by Oct 1st, I missed it.  Our annual vintage bike show is next weekend, I really want to bring this bike, but only if it's done. Doubtful, at best.

I can't wait to restore another CB, it will be a cake walk!!!
