Great shot at the lake Stev-o.
Bike is looking good.
Is that spot normally underwater?

Thanks.  Unfortunately, "normal" these days, is this park has not been under water in quite awhile. Maybe this year the lake will come up?!

They are easier to see in this before I painted it back to black picture of the gussets and steering head bracing
that they did for this frame to eliminate the kawacker flex that they had. These improvements were added to this bike in 1979.
The steel tubes added near the steering head on the frame backbone are kind of in the way for the coils.
Perhaps they could be moved back a half inch or so on yours?

You really cannot see it here but basically they boxed in the entire steering head including a plate where the horn goes.
I had a bit of trouble getting mine to mount in the stock location and had to do some tweaking.

Another shot that shows how those upper tube braces could be moved just a bit further back for coil clearance.

[/URL

Look just in front of the coils and down for the plate.

They had originally planned to race this bike as it was the dealership owners personal ride.

Eric

Nice work Eric. Bottom line is you can't make a Z1 handle with just bolt on bits, I tried, and failed. I did progressive fork springs, S&W fork air kit, fork brace, new Marzocchi Strada rear shocks, Pirelli Phantom tires front and rear and even a steering damper, and while it improved it, the problem was that Kawasaki spent all their R&D money on the engine, and the frame was just an afterthought.

Having said that, they weren't any worse than a CB750, but rather, the extra "Grunt" exacerbated the situation and made them "feel" worse than what they really were. If you want to ride a bike from the era that will really scare you, try a Yamaha XS1100! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

For the life of me, I can't remember if I posted on this one yet and so, here goes. Always had a things for the Hondas, starting with the 305 Super Hawk and going on from there. But have to say that I was also taken back, when Kawasaki put out bikes, like the 500 & 750 Triples and the Z1, along with some othjers as well. But those big Kawa Fours were something and in Sept or os of '09, I picked up on a pretty nice '83 GPZ1100 and that thing will Fly! Having issues with the factory fuel injection now though. A nearby Buddy has access to a proper set of carbs that will do nicely on the big Four and it should be up and running before too much longer and then, I'll be looking to freshen up the look of mine. Yours, BTW, is REALLY getting to be a Looker! Congratulations on a Job well done!  ;)

Yeah, I like it too, but the stripes are starting to deteriorate and flake off. Kind of like to change up the paint scheme, but want to be able to go back to original, if I want to. I have an extra main fairing, if I could pick up some fenders and side covers, I could go with something different, but then THAT would also call for another gastank as well.  I'm stating to see dollar signs!!! ::)

Was "shopping" last night and saw Jeff Saunder's 1200cc Turbo Z on ebay.

For those that do not know, Jeff is a member here and works at Z1 Enterprises.

Wow! I wish I was in a position to bid on Jeff's bike, the high bid so far (7100 bucks) is way less than "restored" Z1's are going for on eBay, and I know which bike I'd rather have! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Now THAT was a pretty cool and informative video on the Big Kawasaki Fours. Not to distract from the purpose of this thread, I  am now thinking that I would like to save this video and start collecting them. Could someone with more skills than me (which doesn't take much), tell me how to do that? Many Thanks,

I believe that Ebay charges the seller extra for that though.
