Ok, I'm feeling like I'm not progressing at an acceptable pace and blew my goal of getting the motor together by the end of Feb.
So, feeling guilty, I guess I owe you guys an explanation. My '06 Tacoma developed a motor knock a couple weeks back, it has 197,000 trouble-free miles. I've been telling the wife for the last few months that it may be time to trade. It was still running but did stall once and did not want to start back up right away, but did after about 15 min, but sounded horrible and the oil light came on. I was right by a shop and wheeled it in. They confirmed my fears, motor suffered loss of oil pressure and was doomed. The oil pan was pulled and was full of metal.
Facing an expensive motor repair, I decided to sell it, put an ad on Craigs and was not prepared for the response I received!
About 25 phone calls and texts within 2 hours of posting the ad.
Obviously I listed it too low, but $5200 for a 9 year old truck with 197K needing a major engine repair seemed fair to me?
Met the first guy who called the following day [and he hounded me by calls and text], he brought cash and hauled the truck off. I had another guy waiting in the wings if the first deal fell though.
In the mean time I was scrambling to find another truck, and did, although it was in Houston, 150 miles away.
So, between selling and buying a truck, I lost some valuable motor rebuild time but was something I had to do, since it's my commuter work vehicle.
The "new" Tacoma looks familiar, but in better condition and only 32K miles.
I'm not a "truck guy" but this model fits mt needs, V6 4.0L motor has plenty of power and the medium size of the truck actually handles quite well.
So, theres my excuse!
