Finished the Build UPDATED
« on: April 17, 2013, 06:16:22 PM »
After exactly1 year after its low-budget purchase on craigslips, my 1978 Supersport build is finally finished. The best part was the fact there was no down-time; each change and addition only took a bit of wrenching of bolt-on parts.

It started from an original running but ratty 78 Supersport (in black, of course) immediately added tires, battery, chain, gave it a good cleaning and put some miles on it. Then I luckily found an Action 4's exhaust on eBay (which immediately got polished aluminum ceramic coated), with a new Supertrapp muffler to cap it off. Norman Hyde handlebars gave it the "right" riding position. Changing to a smaller rear sprocket gave it taller and better cruising feel. A vintage Vesco Rabid Transit fairing was sourced and everything painted black. An unknown brand saddle was the next piece, and then a couple shiny parts were blacked-out, and I'd say its done. Built to ride, and it gets it.

That is way nice , very comfy , hiway cruisin , vintage badass look there ! I really like it !
Found this bike in completely stock condition in Feb. 08. Paid over twice what my new one cost 30 years ago. Am trying to re-create the look of the late 70's Drag Bike styling.More later. 4-2-10 It ain't stock any more and I have no idea what I am trying to create !

Very nice. Looks sporty and comfy at the same time!
Wonder what it would look like with a black front fender?

Looks 100 mph just sitting there.  Nice!  Good to see a clean, practical bike in a sea of ratted out cafe junk.

Beautiful!

Couple questions if you dont mind:

- what sprocket combination do you run?
- what are rpm's at 60mph?
- I assume you did not change cam shaft, or did you?
- brake pads brand and how do you like them?
- did you use 630 chain or swapped to 530?

The reason I am asking is the K3F in my signature  ;D  - Thank you!

Geez ,  I don't normally like a fairing on a bike but that looks great.

You did a great job on this one

736:  Great looking SS.  Tastefully done.  Congrats.  My only suggestion would be to break up all the black with a red pin stripe along the bottom of the seat, bottom of the tank and
continued on in a straight line onto the fairing.  I hope you have many years of enjoyment out of blackie.   Stickman

- what sprocket combination do you run?Rear I changed to a 41T, so I dropped 3 teeth. Front is same as original.
- what are rpm's at 60mph? Tachs at 4100 at 60 MPH now. Less frantic than orig gearing. Adds a few MPH to top-end speed, too.
- I assume you did not change cam shaft, or did you? Motor I haven't dug into but I suspect its been worked because its really healthy.
- brake pads brand and how do you like them? Fronts unchanged; rear I installed Brembo. feels good. Total pita to swap rear pads on this bike!
- did you use 630 chain or swapped to 530?Stuck w/ 630.

Action 4 exhaust, circa 1975. Very rare, only example I've ever seen on a CB750.

Thank you!

I understand the original  sprocket combo was 14 and 43 - so what are you running now?

That fairing looks good. It is very beautiful bike. Just wait until the po sees it. They'll have a big frown on their face wishing it was theirs again.
