Cleaning above slow jets?
« on: April 24, 2013, 10:15:45 PM »
Have a question.... Obviously cleaning above the main jet (emulsion tube) can effect the performance of a bike but what about above the slow jet? I've noticed while looking down from the top of the carb (below the needle) you can see the emulsion tube but also see a very small hole next to it inside the carb. Is that the slow jet port??? I'm guessing it is... No doubt that can get clogged right??? Advice about this?

Yes of course the jet is just one orifice.  The jet is smaller though and is the first point of entry for debris into and passages behind so it is more prone to being clogged.

In any event, there are lots of holes and passages. That's why I prefer to soda blast everything, that way you know for sure.

The definitive completion of a carb clean has to include the removal of all screw/press in components and the visible blow thru of carb cleaner into/thru all fuel/air passages in an equal and full smooth flow from input to output /delivery points.
All ports to the carb throat should be visible and clear with the assistance of background light, from above/below etc. ...........horizontal/angled/hidden fuel or air ports should be proven clear with carb pressure spray thru.............anything less and you risk rework, rework and more rework.........dont let carb cleaner near neoprene/seal/rings gaskets...it eats them.
