Topic: Non cush drive disc brake rear

So I realize that the factory cush drive in the rear hub helps "soften the blow" between the engine/chain and rear hub.  Many vintage drag bikes and occasionally choppers replace the cush drive with a solid hub and disc brake setup.  I presume that using a non cush drive rear on the street would cause more stress on the motor/trans/sprockets/chain, enough to cause serious concern?   How about for a more powerful ported 1000cc motor?    The purpose would be for short local rides and occasional drag strip use.

Hi.I have Morris alum. mags on my 1000 RC engine.After the original Morris cush drive failed by shearing all the sprocket bolts,I deleted the cush drive and increased the diameter of the sprocket bolts.All was fine afterwards.  Rock On

I ran the Shelby wheels on the street and touring for several years with no cush.......never noticed anything.

 Same here Scrambler,  I am running Shelby Dowd wheels with a Hurst Airheart rear disc brake setup. I have never had any problems, even at 22lbs of boost.

Cush drive was for smoothness and quietness on street machines. The only thing needed without is more attention to attaching hardware. Tend to loosen with severe use.
