CB550K1 Exhaust Advice, Please.
« on: April 19, 2013, 05:57:18 am »
A friend of mine is looking to replace his original 4-4 exhaust which sadly is rusted and rotted beyond repair.  The headers are part of the problem too, so no keeping those.  Ideally he would like 4-4 again, but will settle for 4-2, just no 4-1.  I am looking for a specific place, online or off, for him to order this for a budget of about $300.  Or if a member has anything like this they are looking to part with that would be great as well.

I do have a line on some '77-'78 good condition pipes, but I read on a post here  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=82323.0  that they don't match up well on pre '77 550's.  Can anyone confirm/disprove this?

Any help/advice is appreciated.  Thanks.

P.S.  -  Not looking to build, bend, weld, grind, or any intense fabrications.

Great.  I got a line on the same ones for $200, but will they fit a '75-'76?  Without modifications.

77-78 design was changed so those 77-78 550K pipes will NOT fit your earlier 550 (without modification). You need either a used set of 323's which were used on 500s and 74-76 550s (not sure if new are still available), or an aftermarket replacement.

Sorry, not really sure.  I have an F 4-1 header on my '76K. To be honest, I really dont like the '77-'78 stock exhaust, too quiet.

Here is another option but over the budget...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-OEM-4-into-4-Exhaust-Mufflers-CB500-CB550-1971-1972-1973-1974-1975-1976-/200914647443?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ACB550&hash=item2ec7723993&vxp=mtr#ht_10393wt_919

These would actually increase the value of the bike.

Yeah, those are them. And that's what they are selling for. My suggestion to OP to stay on budget would be to shop  for aftermarket replacement if you need them fast and/or new, or wait and hope you can find a ebay or local deal for used OEM set. But $300 might be ambitious either way. Good luck.

You could always make your own design.
