Nice Dave.
All Australian boys need a lathe and a shed.  ;D

They're an asset mate and easy to be self taught.
I've bought a few bits and pieces from this fella over the years.

That is a beautiful  little lathe, Dave. (which rhymes, incidentally) As Blue mentioned, the jaws will probably reverse, in which case it'll probably be big enough for other stuff, but I'm guessing that is a special "Modeller's Lathe", which were very popular 50 or 60 years ago, so don't try to machine anything too big, like a new stainless swingarm pivot. Very nice piece of kit mate, you're a lucky boy. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

yeah i like its precision,i need to get a new belt,it snapped after a few seconds of running,i tried to re do its join, its a leather loop with like a half a staple as the joiner, its all crumbly so ill get a new rubber or whatever one.

You should still be able to pick up a new leather belt for it.  It is a very nice looking piece of equipment, but I wouldn't go trying to peel a 0.080" cut off something with it.  Anything you do with it will have to be done very gently, I would be very suprised if it could do any more than a 0.010" cut.

Bronze, brass, copper and aluminium is all I would realistically expect it to cut.  You may be able to get away with mild steel but it would only be really small cuts, I would expect 0.005" at the most.  You will have to use HSS tools, I wouldn't even contemplate using carbide tips, they are too blunt.

You could do it, it would just take you a while ;D.  Also last week I would have happily given that #$%*ing car away.  The lathe I used for the starter motor spacer is a bloody nice unit, 105mm through the headstock, 3 metres between the centres, and 18" swing over bed.  It also has a digital readout which reads to 0.00001" but in reality only accurate to 0.0005", mind you being realistic about it you can't expect to be any more accurate than that ;D.  Oh and it can peel 0.1" cuts off with ease ;D.

McmasterCarr carries belts and lacing. I was able to shorten my logan's belt and reuse the lacing.

They are a dedicated watchmakers lathe Terry, did a bit of research for Dave when he got it, awesome little thing. There are a few You Tube vids on how to set up and use it. One of the video's shows a guy machining brass... ;)  You need to get that other box that goes with it Dave.... ;)

That is a nifty little lathe! I've never seen anything quite like it, but my first thoughts were watch making. Odd tail-stock...

i picked up all the other stuff for it,a tiny dual action dial scale for like tiny springs, quite a few cutting tools, small whitworth and ba taps, some tiny reamers, collets and the tool post and a tool rest with two rests similar to a wood lathe.

so i quickly knocked up this vintage seiko sports 100 with it.

heres how they came boxed when new if you scroll down, mine might be 40s or 50s with the improved drive head?
