Honda CB550K advice
« on: April 20, 2013, 09:42:21 am »
Hi everyone. I just finished a very simple build on my cb550k. The build took just over a month to finish. I plan on riding it during the season as I live in Toronto and want to get as much riding as possible. Then do all the heavy lifting during the season.

List of things I've done:
Seafoam
Full synthetic oil change
Spark plugs
Drive chain tightened
Brake fluid
Break pads
Fork seals
Fork oil
New battery
Tank painted
Seats reupholstered
New lights ( head, tail,  signal)

Potential problems: After I've done all of the changes I let the bike warm up for about 5 min. I noticed that there is smoke coming from the headers just underneath the oil pan. Is this because it isn't being cooled because it is on a stand still? Also shortly after I went to check my spark plugs and noticed that it had fuel on it. It's that normal?

I will be syncing the carbs in the next few days as I just bought the carb sync tool.

Not sure what else I should attend to mechanically wise. This is my first bike and my knowledge is very limited.

Here's some pictures of the bike

After

Thanks for reading everyone!

Nice bike! Is that the stock seat pan?

Regarding the smoke, are you firing on all cylinders? Gas on the plugs point to a carb issue but could also indicate a lack of spark. Check to make sure all the jets are cleared and that you have all spark on the cylinders.

Thanks for the reply dude. Yeah it is a stock seat pan. I was lacking tools at that time so I used a bread knife to carve the foam. Lol. I'll do the spark plug test and address the carb issue. Thanks again.
