Central CT cb550 down and dirty
« on: April 22, 2013, 07:47:28 AM »
I guess in introduction is necessary. My name is Lee, location Coventry CT. Im 25 and have been tearing apart cars and motorcycles for the past 10 years so this is nowhere near my first build.

This project started out of necessity. I had just moved back from CO last spring, was broke and without a vehicle. I picked this 77 Cb550 up for $150 in a couple boxes of parts and a ton of new spares. Over a couple weeks i got it all back together, though not at all the way honda intended. I love the rat style and pairing that with my brokeass this is what came to be.

I will be starting a project threat shortly as major things have happened as Im no longer broke and decided to tear it down again over the winter.

So here it is (or was) rusty, thrown together, abused but loved all the same

The list is long. Already Ive swapped in a 81 650 motor, zx600 carbs, 76 GL1000 dual disk frontend and Im in the works of lacing some new rims. 3.5x17 rear and 2.15x18 front excel rims, rear is on a cb750a hub. Frame is stripped, braced and painted. Its getting the treatment i wanted to give it last year i just couldnt afford.

Im a quite capable welder/fabricator and have been doing work like this for years, so customizing things is second nature. I want to keep the overall feel of the rat/cafe bike and make something I feel safe hammering on.
