Turn Signal Bug
« on: April 21, 2013, 04:41:29 AM »
I have a '74 CB550F.  My turn signals are not working correctly.  Sometimes they blink, sometimes they don't.  When they don't blink the bulbs still light up.  Is there a specific"black box" that controls the operation of the blinkers and, if so, where is it located?  Thanks.

Mark

Sounds like your indicator relay is on its way out, I'm not sure where they are on the 550's, on my 650 it is behind the LH side cover.  Looks like a small tin can, it is about 1" round and 1 1/4" long, when you replace it use an electronic type unit rather than the bimetal strip type.  They give a steady flash rate regardless of load or battery voltage. :D

Its under the left side cover on a 550, too.
Maybe you can also check for good ground at the blinkers, cause they get ground via the frame.

good luck!
