I ordered my MAC 4 into 1 from BikeBandit.Com, per another member on this board.
Part # PU-201-1401--> 4 into 1 Canister system for Honda cb750K 69-76
I get the exhaust today , and it looks to have header flanges on it - like what is used on the later year bikes. >:(
See below for pics...Do these things come off ? Is this the right exhaust for my scoot ?
I am SO pissed right now , just ask the screwdriver that is on the next block.... >:(

That seems to be a "Mac-special"...
You are supposed to remove all stock mounting hardware and simply bolt those flanges to the head.
That is why they can say it fits "all" sohc 750.

Cheers
Daniel

Mounts will look like this when installed:

How difficult is it to remove the stock exhaust set up?  Because I ordered the same thing.  Did they come with instructions?

Pro,

Let me know how it works out and what I can expect.

The exhaust spigots on the older models are secured with 2 phillips head screws per spigot.  As long as you have an impact driver they typically come off reasonably easy in my experience.

Not difficult.
Just remove the eight crosshead skrews and pull out the exhaust spigots (two screws per spigot).
Get some bolts of the correct legth, new copper gaskets, and bolt on your Mac.
Done.

You will probably have to replace the copper gaskets everytime you remove the exhast, though.
And you will loose the finned flanges.

Well ,

Exhaust destruction 101 is about 1/2 way done.
I forgot what a #$%* taking that 4 into 2 off the bike was.

The baffle in the MAC put up a good fight , but ended up loosing to the handle of my floor jack  ;D
I need to run to the Depot to get some attachements for my impact, so I can buzz the stock exhaust
"screws" outta the head, becasue no screwdriver is gonna make them turn. Why do I have this feeling I am gonna stip
something ???
Get some bolts of the correct legth, new copper gaskets, and bolt on your Mac.
My exhaust came with all needed hardware, minus the exhaust gaskets (of course)..

Other than that , all seems to be going smoothly. Still a BIG concern of ground clearance, but that will be taken care of in time. Funny, how I am going thru all of this, knowing that my bike is gonna run like crap , if at all when I am done... ::)

After going to 5, yes I said FIVE different stores in rush hour traffic, I couldnt find the attachment I need to buzz the bolts off .

Not looking to build the shuttle or anything , just a phillips head attached to a 1/2'' socket, or something along
those lines, so I can try it out with a rachet, before I get out the impact.

This project will be the end of me, and my ownership of this thing.... ::)

Be sure you use an impact driver! an impact will just strip the hell out of it!

like this! even harbor freight has some crappy ones for under $10 for occasional use they are ok.

Gotta Love Mac!  I was looking on the Mac website to see what PT's exhaust looked like, then went to see what they had in a Chrome Megaphone for my F2...  Caption says that it only fits 77-78 K's and 74-78 F's (74 F's??? The long lost F (-1) Supersport!!!  ;D)  But then they show a picture of a 450 Nighthawk!  Do these people even have a clue?

Hey PT, I currently have a similar exhaust on my bike and the PO DID lose all the exhaust stuff you're taking off, let me know if you want to get rid of it, maybe I'll find a Stock exhaust for my restoration...

I have this exhaust on my bike and it is sh!t.  The paint will peel and the pipes will rust.  The sound, however, is decent.  I'm gonna save up for a kerker setup.

FWIW, I work at Dennis Kirk.

Before you order anything from us, if you have a question, you can call our tech support line. We have some very knowledgeable people in tech. If they can't answer your questions at their desk with the resources in front of them, they will pull the part and look at it, and call you right back with the item in front of them. Plus we'll ship the same day you order.

Sorry for the sales pitch.
Jeff

Shameless plug for DK!

This isn't an AD Agency! I want to see some ANSWERS!

Oh, by the way I've allways had GREAT results any time I've ordered from Dennis Kirk! (Sleds & Bikes)  ;D

Just had to kid you about plugging work ;)  After all if we were unemployed, we'd all have a heck of a time funding our bikes! ::)

Yeah Pro..don't throw any of your stock pieces away.....you might want to go back to them someday. Don't knock your new pipes either.Thats just the way aftermarket pipes are.I went to Home Depot for my bolts...got the black allen-head bolts and had no prob mounting the head pipe.My question to you is how does the muffler line up to mount in the rear? Mine is sweet looking but unfortunately takes the right side passenger peg out of the picture (project # 32 this winter.....I promise!!!!) Well anyway...hope you got the sound you were wanting..............These bikes sure have a good tune don't they??

Hey Joe,
Just a word about using bolts.  Don't.  Get yourself the threaded studs and use nuts so you have less of a chance stripping the threads in the head.  Install the studs to the bottom, and there's less stress on the aluminum threads when you tighten it all down.
Cheers!

Supposedly this pipe/system is crap. I looked into it, and i have heard more bad reviews than good..
My question to you is how does the muffler line up to mount in the rear? Mine is sweet looking but unfortunately takes the right side passenger peg out of the picture.
After lining everything up, I see what you are talking about. Not a big deal for me as my passenger pegs were the 1st thing to be removed from my bike, so no worries here...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a long day yesterday, and a even longer night at the bar, I have made an executive decision.
The 4 into 2 is going BACK ON the bike, so I can ride it and enjoy the rest of the 2006 riding season. The 4 into 1 project is just too much at the moment , plus even when I get it done and on the bike, it will still need jetting, thus more downtime (which I will not have). It bothered me last night that I couldn't take the bike out because it was sitting in my garage with no exhaust.

So, The 4 into 2 is going back on after work today. I think I am just gonna put the actual header pipes on with no mufflers and see how it runs. Might be cool ??? 4 into 1 with copper V-Stacks project will have to wait till fall...

you would of thought that a exhaust change would not take a weekend and a degree in stupidity to put on
ride the bike and enjoy it wait till winter to do the change
i'm looking for a winter project myself

I agree. Not that it is a huge project, or somehting I cant handle, I just have this issue with downtime. I don't want to be the cause for my bike not being able to be enjoyed.

A good friend of mine (who happenes to be a master HD tech) is coming over tonite with some "tools" , and we are gonna get the 4 into 1 on the bike, and see how it runs (if it does) with jetting that is on/in the bike. I will post some pics of the 4 into 1 on the bike , and my progress..

i fully agree with using the studs.
i had the mac 4-1 with allen bolts when i bought my bike and nearly had to hammer the s.o.b. off.

whatever you do, don't run the bike with no exhaust.

I have ran things "open port" before, and am outta that phase.
Nothing better than seeing fireballs shooting out of a Ford Flathead V8 with no exhaust  ;D

So what size studs do I need ? Where do I pick something like this up ? Anyone have a friendly link for me to purchase some of these ??

A little defence of MAC here.  Both sets for my 650 was set up to use stock defusers and studs.
The Jardine I just bought used had the setup in your pic.  Happy with my macs and like the jardine so far.

the parts list for the F1 says the studs are M8x50... so if this exhaust is ment to fit all models then those studs should be about right... hope this helps...peace
