Hi, been in the back ground reading some good threads. Am way into my project, so quick run down. Got the bike (Honda CB 750 K7) in June 2012 and started to strip it down to the way I would like to see it. I looked at a lot of nice cafe racer on u-tube but nothing stood out for me, so I started to cut the frame about by taking out a cheese wedge from the back of the head stock until it looked right to me . I was looking for a Harley tank but found a BSA tank that a mate had, put over the frame and that was it for me, cut the centre out to fit over the frame, put some 60's style clip on's and made a solo seat out of steel plate and alloy plate. For a oil tank I got two stainless fire extinguishers one cut in half and the other just the bottom and then tig welded. The wheels are GPZ1000 that I removed the lettering and sprayed up. I wanted the bike to sit low so I took off the rear coil over and made some stainless struts and polished. Just got the engine back into the frame after put new rings in, clean up and polished.

Having trouble putting more pics on, keeps coming up to file to large. I've put pics on other sites and had no problem. By the way doing it from a iPad. Help!!!!!

Any idea how much you increased the rake by? It looks to be kicked out quite a bit.
So long as you know you have messed with the stock geometry It's going to be a learning curve to find out how it now handles.

More pics. I welded the lines into the rear seat unit to match the BSA C15 tank.

This is how I raked it, I got the bike upright and took the weight of the front with a jack and removed the plate that sits on the frame and headstock.I set up 2 lasers, 1 on the frame to the headstock and 1 on the floor pointing to the headstock and marked where the laser hit. I then cut a line straight down the back of the tube that is the headstock ( but not right through , stopped that the bottom about 5mm). I then cut about 35mm away from the first cut at the top, down to the cut where I stopped ( so it like a piece of cheese ). I then put 2 40mmx20mm box section each side of the head stock and welded them to frame ( not the headstock ) to stop it from twisting off line, then lowered the jack so the gap closed up and welded each side off the headstock. Once I was happy with the look my brother and law tig welded it up and made a new plate to sit on top.

Cheers knownothing, I got 80mm at the lowest point of the pipes, which is a bit more then my Triumph Bobber.

This is now the weld on the head stock turned out, bloody happy with it as it looks like it's not been touched.

Sorry not kept you all up with progress but been busy with work and on the bike. So exhaust is now finished off, number plate holder half way and my seat is covered. Just finished off wiring last night, so I can wrap it up now. Sprockets ordered should be with me tomorrow.

Sweet, exactly the look I'm after , I'm going to try your frame mod on my project. Is that the stock top triple ? Shaved and filled ? Stock forks ? Looks very nice !

That machine looks fantastic and I was wondering how much padding you would be putting on the seat, looks like a stiff ride coming up soon . looks like a cafe, built like a chopper, will be interested in hearing about it's handling characteristics.

Hi, yes it is the stock top triple, it come up good but a #$%* to wield got a lot of air holes, but it's a shed built bike and not a 20 grand build. The forks are I think are from a CB750 F2 1982 ? I liked the style of them.

Started the engine for the first time tonight. I first took the plugs out and turn the engine until oil come back to the oil tank, then put the plugs back in and started the engine. At first it was rattling and then it went quite and smoke filled the garage up, I looked at the front of the engine and oil was running out by exhaust port no.3, looked as if it was coming from the bottom exhaust bolt. I tighten the bolts up on the exhaust as they we're a bit loose and it seemed to slow the oil down or is it just the heat of the engine expanding and sealing. So now I have to take the engine back out, but I did rebuild the top end and put all new seals in, plus the six rubber seals under the cams. Am just thinking if I should of put a lot more sealant around the rubbers. Will finish off the small jobs on the bike and then take the engine out.

Yes Bill it should pass a MOT, I built both my bikes to be road legal.
