I have two 1976 550 Hondas; an F and a K. I like them both! I bought the 550F when new and have never sold it. I came close a couple times but backed off at the end thankfully.
I also have a 1993 Harley Wide Glide. I've always wanted one so it was my 40th birthday present to myself.
I don't regret the purchase and like the bike  a lot too. Different style of riding as everyone has said.
Funny...I bring my Harley to a meet and it's just another Harley in the group. Bring the Honda to the same meet and everyone has instant nostalgia with the chrome fenders! Everyone wants to talk about it!
I have never been a mad man behind the bars and prefer to just ride the speed limit on back roads and tend to stay away from the interstate. I prefer just a nice quiet putt and enjoy the scenery and smellsAt 60 I will be retiring soon to Florida; my bikes are waiting for me already! I even built a new garage to house them. What better place to retire than Florida where I can fish or ride 365 days a year!
I want to die like my grandfather did...in his sleep and not screaming like the passengers in his car!

What can I say? I'm 28 and when I roll up on my 77 cb550k I get more attention than any old harley guy in the crowd. By the same token, I'm a complete pampas ass to people with "custom" harleys. Seems extremely cookie cutter to me.

On my way home from GZ ride last weekend, I stopped to get gas. Saw a guy with fairly new triumph bike resting/smoking, so I thought i would join him too. Few minutes later another guy came over on foot and started asking and complimenting me about my bike.  The triumph dude just sat there quietly.  :)

Ha! Me too! I wish my F looked as nice as yours.

Just curious does your F seem to have more power than the K? Mine sure does and I heard from another member the same thing. They are both rated the same but there is a noticeable difference.

I had a 550F for a short while, and it sure seem like it had more power than the K bike also!

F is lighter so will always accelerate slightly faster

Yes, My F is faster than the K. They have different carbs on each bike but I think it has more to do with gearing. I haven't counted the sprockets but I should!

The factory gearing is the same on both models.
I can't believe any difference in factory carbs has any difference in power output.  They were all rated the same from the factory.

However, within any production run, there are individual examples that are just built a bit better and have all the tolerances skewed toward a benefit.

Then again, don't overlook the importance of weight.  Four exhaust pipes simply weigh more than just one.

Then there is the extra weight for oversize tires, and other "additions".

I bought my 550F1 in 1977, still have it and I live in Florida. (although 550 is still in Britain)
Can't ride for about 3 months though, too hot and humid (unless you ride really early although August is still too hot/humid for me)

it's kind of an attention thing. Don't get me wrong I love riding and working on my bike and making it look as good as I can. But if you buy a squid bike you will only get other squids noticing and talking to you. Harleys, the same thing. I get people talking to me that own squids, harleys, triumphs, and not even riders! Just some guys that remember back in the day. I've had bicycle riders stop and talk to me more than once! now that's funny! But its a nice attention getter. And it is fun to ride, I don't need to go 100+ MPH. I have fun on back roads just as much as the next guy. The best thing is if my bike breaks down I know every square inch of it and there is a good chance I can fix it on the side of the road. Doubt 99% of squid riders can do that and prolly 75% of harley riders know there bikes that well.

Anyway that's my take.

OK so I am ignorant what is a squid bike? Damn I'm getting old sorry

First of all: EXACTLY why i love my 550 bollingball.

Second: Squid Bike, is anything made in the last few decades that has more platic than metal and an engine that produces at least but not limited to 100hp. It is accompanied by an arrogant #$%* of a rider who is most likely to endanger himself and others.
