Topic: Super Bike Bars?

Anyone tried a set of superbike or euro bars on a 77A? The stock bars make me sit me up too straight for highway travel. I believe the throttle cables and brake hose will be way too long. has anyone found shorter throttle cables that fit the A or should I wait because I am putting together a set of 75 K round top carbs and K model cam for spring testing anyway.

What constitutes a "super bike bar"?

I replaced my handlebar with a much lower bar.  I can take a pic or make a measurement after I get home (on lunch hour right now).

Still using the stock cables - don't recall any routing issues.  The brake hose makes an ugly bend/bulge along its length because it is too long.  When I made the swap, my only goal was function, not looks - so it looks odd.

My bar is actually just a little too low - may go up one inch.  I'm 6'4" with a long torso (have 34" inseam), and I'm bent over just a bit too far.

Thats what they are called and sold as, small rise and pullback, they are the only bars i use on these old bikes and i love them....

After crawling through a bike junkyard with my original bars for comparison, I selected a set of bars from a '78 Honda 400 Hawk. The 400 auto uses the same bars. They don't cause the cables or brake hose to bunch up, and they give me a lower height and less pull back. The grips place the hands at a much more comfortable angle - not pointing backward so much as the originals. I've taken two pretty long trips now with these bars and no windshield, and 500 mile days were no problem. With the original bars, pain in the wrist, forearm, and between the shoulder blades set in at around 100 miles.

I roughly  measured the bars on my 77 and came up with around.
30 inches wide
9-10 inches  pull back at the tips
7+ inches rise.
May run out ot JC whitney this weekend and see what they have on the shelf. Not the best source but a place to start and close to  Starved rock state park for a walk. if the sun is out.
I may look at putting the mirrors on the end of the bars too, Opinions???

I went with bar end mirrors because with lower bars, I found I needed even taller mirrors to see past my arms/shoulders.  Bar ends are the best solution for me.  I don't like the tall mirror look....

I will say that the low bars transform the feel of the bike.  If you like sportier, being over the tank a little, it just feels great, IMO.

what i did was slowly gently bend the bars away from me (reduce the amount of pullback)about 3 inches or so.now there is no achy wrists or back

Yesterday  my son and I drove out to Utica IL to the JC Whitney warehouse with 5 handlebar part numbers after talking to customer service, hoping to look at all of them and compare them to the stock bars removed from my 77A. We got there and the person behind the counter informed me that none were in stock but I could order them and come back to look. We drove the 80 miles back home just to order a set of Euro bars that seem to measure close to what I want. Wasted trip but nice drive and found regular gas at $3.59 compared to $3.99 here. Will post the result when they arrive next week.

Got a set of Bike Master Euro bars #11-0530 yesterday. 3 inch rise and 4.8 inch clear at the center. went on fine and seem to look much better and feel real good. The cables and brake hose were a pain to reroute  but all in all very happy. The bar end mirrors may be here tonight. Something so simple really changes the aperance of the old bike. Not so old-man-ish. My 6 foot 2 inch son might see his knees get in the way of the bars with the new mirrors. Thanks for the pics and thoughts.

I totally agree!  The bars changed the bikes "personality" so much!

Share you pics when you get the mirrors on. 

I wanted to go with napolean's but the price for the "legit" versions were pretty high, so I went with a cheaper version so far.

Hope the mirrors will come today. If it works out I will get a picture but may need a hand or words of wisdome getting it uploaded to the forum, Electrical-Mechanical things are my thing and I am still lacking in the ways of the Computer and such.

Last entry on these bars. I went for a 50 mile run on back roads and highway even up to 75 MPH and am totally thrilled with the bars. It is a huge improvment. The bike is more comfortable and feels alot better in corners and exit ramps. It will never be a sport bike but is much improved. By leaning forward into the wind  I no longer have to hang on tightly to the bars at highway speeds to be comfortable.  Now the end of bar mirrors are a bad idea. too far back and low for the type of riding I will do. I need to take my concentration off what is in front of me to get a glance of what is behind and beside me. I will look for something that mounts on the original perches.

Your experience is much the same as mine.

I wish my bike looked as good.  My $300 barn find bike is still wearing its primer gray from the PO . . . .

The bike is no show piece but good as the daily driver. Lots of rust pits and such. Need to replace the left alt cover from the fall my son took this winter. could use case savers too.

I am not ready with my round top carbs yet but I have put the shorter ( Euro ) bars on my77A and will need to replace the throttle cables as they are already too long to work well. Does anyone have a suggestion for replacment cables that will work with both the round tops and the original twist grip assembly that are shorter and more likely to work properly with my Euro/superbike bars. I love the bars so far.

You know the ends you want (auto bike throttle grip - round top carbs (tell them the year/model the carbs are from)) - just need to tell them the length.
