Removing baffle from Mac? exhaust
« on: July 27, 2006, 01:24:37 PM »
I think my exhaust is a MAC.  It's pretty loud so I'd like to remove the baffle and repack it to quiet things down.

Underneath the muffler towards the back end there is a 10mm bolt that seems like it retains the baffle assembly.  I tried removing it but I couldn't get the baffle to budge.  I suppose I could try socking it with penetrating oil around the edges.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for getting these things apart.

I just did this yesterday.

1. I removed the bolt (obviously)
2. Soaked both sides with WD40
3. Took the handle of my floor jack and beat the baffle from the inside, and knocked it out.

The thing was in their pretty good , and put up quite a good fight. So dont be bashfull, and give it a few good hits, and it will eventually pop out...

Thanks dude.  I'll give it a go next week if I get a chance.  I'm heading out camping for the weekend in a couple of hours.
