CBR600 Rear Caliper Bracket
« on: April 18, 2013, 11:09:06 AM »
Can anyone tell me how much difference there was between the CBR600f1 and the newer 2's, 3's, and 4's in the rear rotor and caliper arrangement? I am having difficulty finding an f1 caliper bracket. Will one from an f2, 3, or 4, work on an F1 caliper? Are the rotors different sizes? Are the axle diameters the same?

The F1 uses a 2 pot caliper and the bracket is secured with a stay rod.

The F2 has a single pot caliper that is stayed by a slotted bracket on the swingarm that a big tab slides in.

I think they both have the same size rotor (8.66", 220mm). What i would like to know is if the 2 pot caliper will mount on the F2 bracket. I would prefer the 2 pot caliper over the single. From there I have to fab a bracket stay anyways so it doesn't matter which bracket mount method I use.

Your best bet is microfiche and lookup part numbers.  Did you try your local Honda dealer?

I'm only concerned about the way the bracket and rotor go together. I'm mounting it on a CB400f so I have to weld whatever type mount I need onto the swing arm. I think the 87-90 2 pot caliper will bolt up to the F2-F3 1 pot bracket.

I just scored a 2001 F4 caliper and bracket shipped for $17.50 off Ebay. Now I'll see if my 2 pot caliper mounts to and go from there. Thanks for the help.

I just realized I probably just wasted $17.50. I wasn't thinking that this bracket puts the caliper on the front side of the axle and will probably put it in the way of the shock. The CBR is a mono shock and doesn't have the clearance issue there. Live and learn. At least it wasn't an expensive mistake and for the price I can probably resell it at some point.

The f2/f3 bracket mount the caliper to the rear of the axle

See, I am an idiot. I don't know what I was thinking. Now that I look at the pic that I posted you are correct. I tried to cancel the transaction but haven't heard back from them. I will contact them again and tell them to just let it ride. Either it works or it won't. It will have cost me $17.50 for the lesson, not too bad.

I found a correct F1 bracket shipped for $19.83 so I just bit the bullet and got it.

For the rear I got a whole CBR600f1 rearset with m/c and caliper for $49 shipped.

On the front I will use the stock CBR600f1 with the complete f1 front end.

Got the correct bracket in today and this nearly completes the CBR600f1 rear wheel swap. All that's needed now are the cush rubbers, a few spacers and a mount on the swing arm for the stay rod. I'm bending up a swing arm brace this week also.

Also finished up the mock up of the seat until I get foam next week and smooth out all the radius' and contours before making the mold.
