Anyone tried a gauge like this?
« on: April 27, 2013, 04:09:12 AM »
After my good luck with the Danmoto 180, I'm considering a different digital dash on my next build.

That dash, or similar, are al over ebay for cheap.

I'm really tempted to try one of these on my next build. I've emailed a couple of sellers on ebay but let's just say that there's a little something lost in the translation.

I can get a wiring diagram, and I don't need the fuel gauge most of them come with.

I was wondering about running an oil pressure light. The bike I'm working on ('87 Radian) has an idiot light for oil pressure, so I know I can get a signal.

Taken from some of the listings:

" Please tell us your motor fuel indicator is suit for the oil sensor with 510Ohm (Honda ) or 110Ohm (Yamaha, Suzuki). "

 And...

"Oil Mass can be wired on the original sensor."

Looks like I can get the oil light to work...huh?

I'm also considering the Danmoto Nano, but Wow! that thing is tiny!

I'm really happy with the 180 gauge, but don't want the same thing on two different bike.....I think....

Do you have to drill a hole in your disc with the DanMoto like you do with the eBay guage?

You don't have to drill a hole. You can epoxy the small magnet onto it.I had a recess milled into the top of one of my sprocket bolts to sink the magnet into.

These gauges work off the same principle as the TrailTech one I use.

While the unit in the OP may not have as many functions as the TT one , lt is a nice unit for the money.

But that thing is just so... ugly!  :o

Also, the ebay offer description leads to the conclusion that it's meant as an upgrade for cheap chinese scooters. Do youl really want to have that on an SOHC4?  :P

Electronics are the same whether it's on a moped or a big bike. The unit doesn't care what it's on.

Yes indeed, but

My point was that maybe your bike cares what units you put on it... These old ladies have their pride, you know ;)

I think I'm going to try the Koso gauge. It's still small, but larger than the Nano. Only about $20 more than the Danmoto.

The Ebay unit also come in a mechanical drive speedo instead of the electro magnetic one.
