Washington DC Area Members- Any DMV tips?
« on: July 27, 2006, 10:33:08 AM »
I'm ready to head down to the inspection station to get my 76 F the once-over.  Is there anyone here who's dealt with the DMV?
How was your experience down there?  Any tips?

My last experience with the car wasn't so positive-  and I'm trying to avoid problems up front.

thanks
dave

Nah, I'm in Northeast DC by Union Station.

Tuns out the DMV trip was my easiest ever- they checked lights, signals, tires, made sure I wasn't burning oil, then issued a pass.

Where are you at?

Pasty, Glad to hear your trip was easy.  My only advice is pay your tickets when you get them, don't wait.  Fight them if you can but do it.  MD has got to have the best computerized record system and they never forget money that is owed them.  Thats from personal experience.  Got a ticket for burn taillight bulb, fixed it but never went to show the police I had, and got stopped 2 1/2 years later re entering the country by immigration for a warrant for my arrest for failure to appear in court...Turned out to be just a big hassle, but I learned my lesson.

By the way I'm up in Silver Spring MD, top of the Beltway...

I'm way down the Blue Ridge Parkway, almost to NC.
I'm planning to put Antique Tags on my bike when next I renew. Doesn't have to
be inspected then. I don't know if you can do that in DC.

I registered my 73 as "historic" which means I can only ride it a certain number of miles a year, to and from club meeting and events and in parades....I figure every day I ride it is a parade, I made a club at work and the local coffee house ride every Sunday is an event, and the mile limit I just don't care about.  Plus I've heard in MD you can put a vintage plate on it as long as you notify the State and keep your paperwork real plate on board.

I am also registered historic in MD.  They really don't give a rats ass.  My three color '83 el camino participates in parades to work, the dump, and the bar- but has never been in a parade to the inspection station.  Good Luck and try to get historic status
