Amen Frame Neck Bearing Question
« on: April 29, 2013, 11:12:33 AM »
Are they Honda, Harley or something else?
My 550 chop has bad bearings and I want to order the parts.

On a side note, anyone have some of the old adds for amen stuff?
Not to much out there for the 550 frames

Those AMEN chopper frames: 500/550/750 were made to use the stock Honda bearings or the Harley one inch (1.0” inner diameter) neck bearings and stem. Which bearing type depends on how the frame was originally ordered. If you have the Harley type, any 1.0” neck bearing from a big twin such as a Panhead or Shovelhead will fit. The Harley 45” flathead used a 7/8” inner diameter neck bearing so you will want to avoid those. Custom aftermarket springers and girders generally used the 1.0” Harley neck bearings.

The top "nut" is a Honda part, so I'm not sure.
really I'm just being lazy, ill pull it this weekend and measure.
Was just trying to have the parts on hand to just replace the bearings.

I used the honda roller bearings in my amen cb750. You can buy them on feebay does yours have the bearing housings in side the neck tube. Harley bearing will not work I had to have a stem made for my springer so I could keep it all honda stuff. It's easier that way. I just picked up a amen rigid last summer the guy thought it was a paugcho frame. Not very many amen rigids out there let alone cb550 ones. At least you don't have to worry about a oil tank for one. Are you using a stock front end or springer/girder

Go back to Hondachopper.com and just tell them you have a AMEN frame and you need bearings, just DON'T tell them it's on a 550. You can post for LOWRIDER TOMMY he sells everything needed to mount it... HC.com you can ask ANY generic M/C question about mounting Harley frontends to old frames just don't tell them what kind of engine it has!!!

Those are HONDA bearings, You can buy a set of ALL BALLS taper bearings and races for that frame. I believe the 550 and the 750 used the same tripple trees and neck. You might start here ask for KATE

http://cycleonemanufacturing.com/   or check here
http://lowridersbysummers.com/     Both can hook you up.

I'd go with tapered bearings. And how about a better picture of that beast.

Bearings ordered.
Thanks for the ID.  Thought they were Honda.
This is my first old school custom, so I'm learning a lot.
Read the Amen catalog, thought it would answer some questions....
But they made a cb550 frame for Honda front end....and one for a Harley.

Built thread is in my sig.
Mostly doing some much needed maintenance and trying to keep it as a nice original survivor.

Sweet I've got a amen rigid frame for a 750. Getting stuff gathered up to do it this summer. I love those amen frames now you need to get a savior frame so you can have both.
