use a site like CMSNL to search the fiche and find your part number (45530-404-315)
http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550k-1978-usa_model7222/45530-404-315-cylnset_45530404305/

paste that number in google and search for it.
here's one of many hits...

The snap ring pliers with removeable tips often don't have the reach needed for the MC, and sometimes aren't very sturdy.
So, imho invest in a good pair or bribe a local MC shop to do it for you to breakdown and clean from there.
Sirius Consolidated Inc in Canada has lots of carb, brake, and other MC parts at decent prices so order several things to spread the shipping costs across the parts.
Z1 enterprises is another good source as is Discount Honda Parts and South Side Honda in Olympia WA
+1 on Slingshot, Shaun is a great guy.

Those special snap-ring pliers with long thin tips do make removing the internal snap ring easier, but if you press and hold the piston down, there is plenty of working room to use a standard snap-ring pliers.  I gently hold the master cylinder in my bench vice (using a towel to prevent damage) so that I can use one hand to press and hold the piston down, while using the other hand to remove the snap ring.  Installation is even easier, once the snap-ring is started in the bore, I tap it down using a suitably sized deep socket, listening for the 'click' as it seats in the groove.

MotionPro sells the proper snap-ring pliers and they are only about $25; I have yet to find another set that works as well and are  a good addition to any bike mechanic's tool box...

Check their site. Hit the drop down menu called SHOP. Shaun is great to deal with. If you don't find it, email him.
