4 to 4 exhasut on 74 cb550
« on: July 29, 2006, 03:08:49 PM »
I want to get my 74CB550 K0 back to its original 4 to 4 exhasut configuration.  somebody on ebay is selling a set with the following numbers stamped on the pipes: HMCB500 SL HM323.

Anybody know how to decode these numbers and determine if these pipes will fit my bike without major modifications?

thanks.

Not the 550 expert, but if you don't win the auction, David Silver Spares sells brand new Honda exhausts for your 550 for 79 pounds each.  Not cheap, but a possible alternative.

I just got an nos set for my 74 550 and they are stamped with the 323 code as well. the part number
tags on the boxes had the 374, the superceded(?) numbers correct for the 550. Going out on a limb, as the numbers are not in front of me,
I believe the 500 (323) code pipes are the same and correct for a 550 k.

all same part. Dont forget you need the brakets; the joiners at the rear; the clamps for the joiners; stand rubbers as well as the 4 pipes

Over the past four months, I've purchased a new set of pipes/mufflers from a couple online Honda dealers; MR Cycles was the best shipper, they double-boxed the individual pipes and wrapped them in plastic. Here's their prices as of 07/30/06 (less shipping) -

Muffler # 1, Ex. - $162+
Muffler # 2, Ex. - $160+
Muffler # 3, Ex. - $128+
Muffler # 4, Ex. - $126+

The prices vary almost day-by-day; why some should be so much more than others is beyond me...

And although they are labeled "Muffler", it is the entire pipe from the head to the muffler tip...

Heh...they now have a noise warning stamped onto them...   ;D

...Stock 1972 CL450 'Scrambler' also being re-assembled...
