Gakets and seals

 1. I need to change my alt. and shifter cover for a very small but irritating oil leak. After a good cleaning do these go on dry? Or do I need some type of sealer. I think dry but like to check to be sure. The only reason they are leaking is because I had to remove them last winter and did not have new ones at the time

2. On the shifter seal being carefull to align it good I thought put a little grease on the very clean shaft to try and help it slide over without snagging on the splines. Anyone use something else on the shaft?
Thanks in advance
Ken

I use grease with cardboard gaskets it assists in holding it in place during installation

I like to use engine oil on seals that interact with engine oil.
