77' CB750 transmission in 74' Case?
« on: May 04, 2013, 03:42:53 PM »
I've got a 77 CB750k engine torn down, but a bunch of the cylinder studs broke off while trying to remove. I also have an engine out of a 74 but it's in rough shape.  I'm wondering if I can just use the case from the 74 with my 77 guts and cylinders?

thanks

I could be wring on this, and hopefully someone will chime in if I am, but I think you will be all set as long as cylinders and up are all '77. There was some oil passage changes in the later years and I THINK it is all in the cylinders and head.

Don't have firsthand knowledge, but the way you are doing it it should work. Guts mating and head to cylinders matchup are key. Only thing I might think is height, like case to barrels to head

The counter-shaft seal behind the sprocket, and the sprocket on the K7 case sticks out 10 mm more than on the K4 case, due to the wider K7 bearing. It might be better to have the broken studs replaced, rather than try to figure out all the little differences. BTW, please do not try to use an easy-out to remove the broken studs. :o

Scott is correct, longer out put shaft and bigger {wider} bearing on the shaft...

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.
