rear hub 1978 cb550

Has anyone replaced the rubber dampers in the rear hub...today i pulled the rear wheel thinking i could pull the sprocket and there they would be lol.... :(   seems there is a flange/bearing retainer stopping me pulling them out..any help guys..

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Here is a pic of a '77 750 hub; I believe the 550 is similar? The sprocket and drive plate should pull straight out of the hub as a unit. The drive plate has it's own bearing; be sure to check that as well.

Thanks guys ...i got it apart ..the flange screws off anti clockwise..bearings ok....the rubbers are intact but there is some wear in the rubbers causing a bit free play when the hub/sprocket is on

not worn out but hard as rock...could play tennis with them lol..34 years old

Update 5/5...i decided to cut some thin hard rubber to take up the slack in the hub/dampers..now the hub is back together, everything is tight now....waiting for new brake shoes...
