77-78 cb750 gas tank

What's that clear tube that runs from under the gas tank? I'm about to swap a 75-76 tank which does not have that. Both tanks have the petcock on same side.

Could it be for ventilation?  I know the earlier style tanks achieved this through the lids, there was a rubber grommet and vent holes in the middle of the cap.  Your 77 tank has that covered filler, so maybe that wasn't an option for that tank?

what roto said.  If you are very careful while fueling and not spill, you can remove it.
