For you car guys (Dad's project)
« on: May 03, 2013, 04:21:27 PM »
Hello all thought I would share some photos of the car my Dad has been working on. He sent me a long list of all the stuff that has been done to it so any questions let me know will try and answer. What I like about this project is that the frame is from my Grandfathers car that burnt down in a lighting storm.

He is about done has the graphics to put on and some more tuning to do to it and the roll bar.

That is beautiful, and a wonderful family heirloom.  Do you think your Dad will let you drive it?

Tell us about the engine, interesting.

+1 mate, 4 cylinders and 8 spark plugs, that must be one big displacement 4 banger! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Bob he has been working on it about two years.

He sent me some of the engine stuff he has done.

Diamond model B block
inserts, balanced crank, lighten flywheel
3/4 race cam
heavier valve springs and valves
lion aluminum dual plug head
equalizer intake
dual strombergs 81's
red tube header
Datsun electronic dual plug distributor

He had it figured out the hp and weight the car would do 100-110mph. When he went to talk to the person on what safety stuff he would need he found out that the cars racing were doing 120-130mph so he redid the engine to get it up to that speed.

The car doesn't weigh that much the body is all hand made out of aluminum but I cant imagine going 130 in that car lol sits so high.

The Datsun electronic dual plug distributor is what took him the longest to figure out is pretty cool that he got it all to work. On the dyno he said it added about 5-7 more HP.

Thanks for looking.

That distributor's wild! The rotor must have dual contacts on it to fire two plugs at once with two coils. Do you suppose there is a wasted spark?
