jet change on cb550
« on: July 25, 2006, 01:04:15 PM »
went from stock filter to foam unipods.  increased carb setup from stock 100 needle on mid slot to 105 with needle full rich.  Still has nothing at WOT but comes back on @7/8 throttle, spits through carbs, hesitates off idle.  has descent response from 1800-5500 rpm.  Sounds like its too lean and plug chops confirm this at higher rpm.  I have some 110 jets that I can try, but is it normal to have to increase jet by 2 steps just by putting on pods? ???

...I think so...I'm about to put 125's in my 550 with pods...don't have them in yet, so that may be way to rich, we'll see.

I know with 750's stock is 105 or 110, and with pods folks usually go to 125-135...

put the 110s in and its much better but still not quite there yet.  Going to order some 115s and 120s, one of them should get the jetting right and then I'll start tinkering with the needles.

...just got my 125's in tonight...it was raining, so didn't get to take it for a spin.  :(  Hopefully I can run it around the block tomorrow and check the plugs out afterward...

Got the 115s and 120s in the mail today.  Decided to skip right to the 120s, right choice.  Runs great at WOT, now slightly rich at mid range.  A notch toward lean on the needles should take care of it.  Finally I see light at the end of the tunnel.  Man I sure am glad to get this straightened out so I can ride.  I didnt want to ride it in this heat, 100 degrees,  with it running as lean as it was.
Lumbee; did your 125s work out or were they a little too much.

...yea got the 125's in it, but have only but 5 or 10 miles, on it, but the plugs (at least 1 and 4) look good.  I don't have tags yet, and the brakes are spongy as all get out, so the front brakes are coming off for a clean up.  Tires are clacked too, so I need to get some new rubber if I'm going to put any real miles on it...   ::)
