Cb400F shock assembly
« on: May 04, 2013, 07:33:33 PM »
So I'm taking apart my shocks to clean up and powder coat. In order to get the lower spring retainer off the top the eye must be removed. Is the nut in the picture just a jam nut against the eye or is it part of the eye and comes off with the eye and nut as a unit?

Okay, got the jam nut loosened. Now what do I use to hold the shaft while turning the eye?

Hi Marc,
split alloy block with I think 10mm hole.
Easy enough to drill a hole in piece of 1" plate then split it in half with a hacksaw
Clamp it in vice
I fake being smart pretty good

Thanks PJ. I'll see if I can come up with something like that and give it a try.

What was real thoughtful of whom?
I was able to loosen the jam nut until it seated on the shaft and I stuck a piece of pipe in the shock hole without the rubber in it and amazingly it popped right loose. I plan on powder coating everything that I can on the shock for color mock up purposes on the bike and then they will be retired to the sample wall in the showroom and replaced with new shocks. Others questioned why I would go through the trouble of making nice a worn out POS shock, that is why.
