Green to vintage scene
« on: May 05, 2013, 07:36:01 PM »
Like the title says, new to the vintage scene, but not to motorcycles. My curiosity came when I saw this video- http://vimeo.com/andrewdavidwatson/waitingoutwinter and instantly I felt like everything I saw felt right about owning another motorcycle. I instantly emailed Cast and Salvage about the bike in the video and was given a good reference point on what to start looking for (any Honda CB in the 70's). From there I began searching through Craigslist for a CB, something my wife and I could both ride if we wanted to get out for a bit.
I found a 74 CB 550 in Valdosta, GA for sale under $500 that someone was about to turn into a bobber. The best thing about it was he had already replaced the tires and tightened up the spokes. It was a rolling frame sans handlebars. I looked at it as work done that I didn't have to and a perfect project to jump in the scene with. With the motor and everything in boxes I slowly began going through all of the parts, but keeping them in a box so I could slowly get what I needed together to get the build together.
As of right now this is my project, the motor is being cleaned and inspected while I am away on a trip (like I was when I found the bike) and the other stock parts are going to be sifted through a bit more now that I have taken time to read up in here and on DO THE TON. Once I get the motor back from the shop I will start a build thread that will most likely take quite a bit of time to complete because of my work and life schedule.
Thanks for reading and I hope to receive as much feedback when building this up as others have in their buildup threads.
