Is there reset point for a clutch 5/7/13

I am finishing up my 74 750 and the clutch was really difficult to engage. I let the bike warm up thinking it may help soften it but the clutch grip was still hard to pull back. I followed the manual but I went to far and now this part is loose.

I followed the manual and was able to get it back in but now the clutch won't engage. Do I have to pull the clutch cover to set properly?

In pic one the lever is definitely not seated ont the lifter. The lever has a oblong hole, parallel sides with round ends. Fits neatly onto machined notches of lifter. None of the hole should be visible.
In pic 2 looks like its seated. The gap should be there as you pull the lever the lifter moves innbound carrying the lever with it, so a gap is needed.

See how that screw for adjustment is deep inside the nut?

That is not correct. The screw inside the nut should protrude from the nut.

You will need to just remove the cover and then you will see how it all works.
Removing the cover is not hard at all.

IMO, the cover does not need to be removed. The screw slot of the adjuster is sitting deep in the nut, because the arm is not seated in its notches. Once that is fixed, the slot will be higher relatively, and it should be OK.

You can see in the second pic, the arm is seated and the slotted adjuster is protruding as it should a tad from the nut.

Tews: Did you do anything to it between pic 1 and pic 2? Are they the same?

I was able to seat the adjuster arm. You were right. I will post an update hopefully tomorrow as the wife is working and I have all the kids at the park right now enjoying this warm night.

I continue to struggle with the clutch adjustment of the 74 750....... I was able to at least get it in gear and not die on me.... But I still can not get it to function properly..... I grind the hell out of the clutch if I engage slowly as per the manual or else the bike will jerk hard as hell and die......

I went through the procedure several times and still nothing...

Is there a way I can start from scratch?

BTW, I was able to get the bike around the block but the clutch was way off. Went back to the garage and I am back at square one.
