newbie in need of help!!
« on: July 29, 2006, 11:42:47 AM »
Hey guys.  I recently bought a 73 CB750 and am damn excited.   The guy I bought it from said it only needed a new battery, clutch cable, and a carb re sync ...  I trailer it home and put some gas in the tank to find that the hose is not connected ... so all the gas just pours out!!  No petcock (I think thats what its called, the thing where the hose connects to) just a hose with no end.

heres my real problem.  The bike was able to roll when I got, I think it was in neutral.  when we were rolling the bike to the truck the previous owner busted out a hammer to the brakes and said they were sticking a bit.  kinda crazy in my mind.  still rolled well though.    when I brought it home I was screwing around with the clutch cable and shifting gears and realized the bike wouldn't roll anymore.  I pull the front brake lever to see how i felt and it was stiff to pull towards me.  I look @ the brake pads and they are tight against the disk, so I'm unsure if the pads are stuck to the disk or what they won't separate.  I screwed around with the master cylinder to make sure fluid comes out and it does.  I'm not sure if there is too much fluid or what (if that even possible?)??

regardless I'm unsure what to do.  is it just not in neutral?? is the front brake preventing it from rolling?? ???
I think its the brake but am unsure what to do since it rolled 2 days ago and now its stuck.  and the repair manual basically just says how to tear down and put everything together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take the calliper off and see if the bike moves…if it moves then start work on the brakes not the clutch…..  my money is on the calliper.

I just discoverd this sight, so I hope you don't mind if I chime in.  I have two Honda 750's, a DOHC 81 model and a 74 CB 750 K4.  Had to take care of the same problem on both of them.  Happens all the time.  I think all of my bikes were that way at one time or another.   Pull the brake caliper off. Leave the bleeder screw in until you get the piston out.  If the piston will not come out, use some compressed air, but be careful it will fly out with a lot of force.  Inside you will find an o-ring.  The problem is that under this o-ring corrosion has built up and will not allow the -iston to return.  You can buy a new kit which will include o-ring, seal, and piston.  Or you can very carefully remove the o-ring and clean the recess of goop and reuse the o-ring.  If you are careful and lucky, you can do this without buying any parts, but you will need some brake fluid.  It is not really a difficult task, so go ahead and give it a try.

If you want to decide in it is your front brake get the front wheel off the ground and try to spin the tire.If the front spins put the bike on its center stand and see if the back wheel spins. It should spin  in nuetral. Spinning the tires will tell you where to look next and probably bring you to new questions.
