Connector Box
« on: May 11, 2013, 11:09:14 AM »
I have a question for anyone who may remember how this works. I am just in the process of putting my '77 550 F back together after some much needed wiring attention and am wondering how do you fit all of these bullet connectors back in this tiny little box?

Back into this:

is there a certain way that the harness is supposed to route into and back out of the box?
There are small cutouts next to the screw you can see here

Is the handlebar wiring supposed to come in there and the main harness routes out the large slot? If anyone has a picture of one installed on the bike it would be appreciated, they just dont seem to want to fit... I looked through my disassembly pictures but dont have one that shows this. :-[

For what its worth, I worked at this earlier and got everything squished into that box. It is tight for sure. I ended up with the main harness and the handlebar wires coming out the large cutout. After looking at it, I am fairly certain that the two small cutouts on either side of the screw are there to drain any water that may get in there. Got my tank back on now and the list of things to do is getting smaller... :D

I thought those boxes were unique to 750's. My 550 certainly doesn't have one.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Lester I think the box was only fitted to the f models, they have a shallower headlamp shell so wouldn't be enough space for all the wires!

Mine is an F. I've only seen boxes on 750 F's.

Maybe someone removed it 28 years ago before I got it. :)

Yeah, my bike technically is a 550 F2 according to the serial no. I got them all packed in there so all is well now. Hopefully all the connectors stayed together!! The headlight bucket certainly is full too so I guess that makes sense to have the additional box.
