Riding in the rain
« on: May 12, 2013, 04:45:17 AM »
Hi All,
spent yesterday (11am-7:30pm) riding to soccer games in the rain,
reffing said games in the rain,
and rode home in the rain.

Good thing I like both rain and soccer, non? 8)

As you can probably tell, I am NOT a fair-weather rider only. ;D

Today's prdiction is for rain. I have 3 more games to ref 1.5 hours away.
Maybe I should buy raingear.

peace,
michel

Riding in the rain is no problem with the proper rain gear. Without the proper gear it is a little damp  8). If I only rode in fair weather Id have never gone anywhere ;)

I hear ya.
I Know I have raingear somewhere....just haven't found it yet
what with all the nice sunny days we had last week I didn't look for it
and now that I need it, I am finding I'm short of time.

I do not think any of us are a "fan" of riding in the rain. I have rain gear for the Wing and get along fine with that if I get caught in a downpour. The 750's...well, I sort of baby those and only take them out when it is nice. :)

I had a stock (1000? 1100?)  Goldwing, but it had no fairings. SO I had to wear raingear riding that beast.

It would rain less if you had rain gear.

I had a lovely ride home from an allnighter in the pissin rain today. Not a problem apart from an occasional misfire. Need some WD40 on the plug leads. I have proper raingear. I think it's compulsory in Norn Iron.  ;D

Frank Thomas Aqua Jacket..100% waterproof, shoulder and elbow protection, removable liner.

Dainese Goretex/Cordura 100% waterproof. Knee and shin protection, removable liner.

Frank Thomas Aqua gloves, 98% waterproof though they are really summer gloves.

Dr. Martens. Probably waterproof for 30 mins but look really cool.   8)

Thanks Lester for that! I like the trousers and the jacket - Ill need to look into that. When I was last in Japan I went to one of the bike stores there (great places) and got a Yamaha waterproof jacket/trouser set that had a waterproof rating for both. No protection though. So I got a Hein Gericke TRG jacket that is waterproof last time I was in Scotland. Trousers are RevIT Factory - very waterproof. No good gloves as of yet.

I like the look of those Dianese trousers.

For boots you might want to consider the TCX Infinity GTX boot - goretex lined and 100% waterproof. Comfy for walking around in as well. I wear them year round.

cheers
Andy

Any of you guys try the frogger suit? I just chuck it over my regular gear and away I go. I love it and it rolls up all nice and neat in it's own little bag.

I have the Tour Master 2 pc rainsuit & also wear it over the riding gear.  Was considering a Frogger suit as it's real small to carry, but got a deal on the Tour Master :)

What is the Tour Master like? I have their 4 into 1 riding pants which I just freaking love. The frogger suit is neat cause I can just shake it and all the rain just flees. LOL Makes it easy to roll up and put away.

I quite like the sound of that frogg gear, I'm not a great fan of how most waterproofs nowdays seem to be made of a cordura type outer layer, which gets soaked through, and a goretex type liner, as you still end up feeling you're wearing a cold wet heavy jacket even though you do stay dry. The frogg gear is a breathable too, most importantly, though it all seems very lightweight- the type you'd wear over other riding gear.  Are there any makes of waterproof outer wear that have armour etc but don't actually absorb water like cordura does?

My Dainese don't really absorb water. You'll probably find the material that doesn't absorb water at all will melt from heat..like my jacket which accidentally touched my headers.  :(

mine's a Dianese too, a Madison,  it kinda gets wet and heavier, it certainly doesn't fit that description "I can just shake it and all the rain just flees" which I would like. Maybe there are different types of cordura, though I doubt any are melting reistant...

It's a lightweight suit, nylon type mat'l  I think.  Only used it once last year, thankfully, & it wasn't a heavy rain but found it comfortable to wear over jeans & a Joe Rocket jacket, has vents & pockets too.
