I think we all know what happened.  He logged on and posted after his supposed Dino session.  Too bad he doesn't come back and tell us what was wrong, others can still learn from this.

« Reply #53 on: July 16, 2013, 01:37:50 PM »

Hi guys :
First let me apologize for not posting sooner.
Just ran into other problems with the bike and then I got busy at work.
We ran the bike on the dyno with stock carbs and then with the CR carbs.
It was obvious that the mixture was very rich with both set ups, so we gave up I took the bike home then in between jobs I took care of each problem one at the time.
Problems:
I was getting 11 V. at the ignition coils. Too much resistance on the wire between ignition and coil.
Carb rubber intakes, despite of being new the were slightly cracked and the clamps were to big for them.
The new battery was not holding the charge.
Solutions:
I double up on the ignition wire.
Got new rubber intakes and new slimmer clamps.
Made and installed carburetor brackets to hold the carbs to the frame.
Got new battery.
Set the carbs as follow:
Pilot jet: #60
Main jet# 120
Jet needle 3 down from the top
Fuel mixture screws at 3/4 of a turn.
The bike is running very good.
Small hesitation from low to mid range,(lock of accelerating pump?) it gets better after bike its nice and warm.
Im running for 2 weeks now with this setting and all is fine, I tried to lean the mixture to 1 full turn and see what happens but the bike did not like that, it was hard to start and the hesitation got much worst, got a little better when bike warmed up but much more noticeable.
I think that 3/4 its perfect for it otherwise it may get too rich.
I was ridding today and I ran into a bad tropical storm, it was raining sideways, heck it was raining down side up :)
I thought, if I'm going to have a fail on this bike it will be today, (with pod filters exposed to the elements)
But no, My 750 got me home OK.
FYI
I was in touch with the Dynoman crew at all times and they were very informative and helpful.
No problems here riding the CR carbs on a semi stock bike.
I got this bike close to 120 MPH for the first time since I had it, bike pulls harder and the exhaust system sounds very aggressive.

Good update and sounds like you have done a lot of work getting it to work. Would still be good to see the dyno charts if you get the chance as I for one am really curious.

Enjoy the ride!
cheers

Looks good, hope it continues to run well. Just one question...

where exactly were the "crabs" installed?  ???

Hopefully not in the seat!  :o  ;)

Funny, I did not noticed that!
Just changed it.

BTW
Here is a close up of the brackets that I made to support the weight.
Also notice how close is the petcock valve to the carburetor. It gets on the way of turning the reserve fuel on.
My fuel consumption when up so slightly I still get about 115 miles before I have to tap into the reserve.

You must be running pretty rich to only get 115 miles/tank. I turn on reserve at 140-150 miles - stock CB750K4.

Pods and exhaust definitely gas consumption is high, it could be worst!
I don't smell any un burn gas coming from the exhaust so it seems OK

Yeah, summertime here is pretty brutal... either scorching heat or torrential rain. My latest project got the "wet test" a couple months ago on my way back from the coast. Got hammered with a gully washer and it never missed a beat, so the electrics are pretty tight. Forecasts are for a pretty wet weekend, but we should be able to find time to ride soon.  8)

Nice brackets!
I have brackets for my Mikuni VM29's with pods. They are not invisible as yours when they are attached into the hole just over the float cover and also use the filter box holes on frame.
Later tanks have the petcock on the other side. Maybe possible to use reserv then. Redesign the petcock handle, shorten it and somehow make the shaft longer avoiding the carbs...

The tank has some play just enough to lift so that I can use the reserve fuel supply
Nota big deal.
I managed to get 124 miles yesterday before using the reserve
I filled the tanks all the way to the top.
Bike runs so good and near 120 mph can get enough ridding
Been caught on bad storms more than twice this week
Visibility yesterday was terrible rain hurts like thousand needles hitting my face.
But the bike still running good
FYI
I'm usingNGK plugs with no fouling issues

I wonder if the screaming chicken guy ever got these carbs sorted.  Maybe tuning the Vmax did him in.

Too bad experiments like these never seem to get updated.  Not that I have any interest in who needs to eat their words, but if it can be done I'd like to see it.
screaming chicken reporting, jackass:
The V max put on a fight but it got done in two days.

Now here is the Dyno sheet for the 750:

The 750 as I mentioned before had some other issues, finally running.
I went and Dyno it yesterday, did some adjustments:
Needle 2nd from the bottom
Mix screw 3/4 of a turn.
Bike starts immediately, perfect idle.
As you can see;/ hesitation at 3k rpm lack of fuel pump?
Its not noticeable unless I rev quickly in between 3k-5k
other than that the bike its very responsive.
Spark plugs look good.
I'm in touch with Dynoman to see if we can do better.
We think that a different needle will do the job.
But, bike runs very good. I'm using it daily with no issues at all.
It's a WORK IN PROGRESS

Happy to hear you're getting these sorted, and that they're working.  Looking forward to seeing the rest of your progress.  Proof it can be done!

Damn you had to put up the pic of the V-MAX. My favorite bike I love it. Would like to see the sheet on it. Is it yours? I'm close to going to the bank for a 2013. But I will keep the 750 K8. PM me the sheet if you can thanks.

I rode the shish out of the 750 this weekend.
A group called Café Moto rides Sugar Hill one a week.
So I went, the bike did fine. suspension workout good.
I scraped the foot pegs couple of times while leaning on turns.
It was a spirited ride!
A/F ratio could be better but the rich at high speed and the lean condition at low end, balanced the bike a bit.
Spark plugs look good all the same dark gray color.
its so hot in here that a rich condition helps cools the engine.
I may have some issues when it cools down. Will see.
Cycle X header /megaphone combo worked very good with the CR carburetors and it sound very aggressive.
I experienced some clutch slippage going from 4th to 5rth. at high rev's.
But I love the high end response of dose carbs!
Over all I'm very satisfied with the results.
