CR Carb Tip/Reminder: Check Starter Circuits
« on: May 14, 2013, 01:42:10 PM »
I was reading some old posts about CR carb jetting when I stumbled across this thread by scondon (thanks!) about how the starter circuits in his CR's had become clogged. I was due to install new throttle cables, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to pull the carbs and make sure everything was clean and smooth.

Lo and behold, the starter circuits were clean, but the starter valve on the #1 carb had a bent shaft that was causing it to stick open:

I may have stressed it some time back by monkeying around with the bolt that the starting circuit lever slides on. You can also see that part of the plastic top bolt (Sudco calls it the "cap") had broken away. I have no idea how that happened, but it appears that there is residue from where fuel may have been leaking past the threads.

I thought I'd toss this out there because it's worth checking the starter circuits on CR's when you get a chance. Unlike a choke, you can't actually see what's happening in the CR starter circuit when you work the lever.
