Drugs in the USA
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:28:27 PM »
Just returned from the doctors office.
I have not been on any medications for decades,
but now need some drugs to make myself able to sleep.
My condition is wierd, rare and my wife's insurance doesn't cover the cost

of $365/month.

So, I guess I just have to get used to sleeping 2 hours, then 4 hours followed by being
whipped out the rest of the day. Guess medical insurance people feel it is better for you
to drive your bike half awake than to cover the cost of needed medications.

THere is something wrong with our medical system in the USA.

peace,
michel

You need to put a call in to your doctor for another substitute drug. Tell them your insurance will not cover it and what the cost to you is. There are many sleep aids that are relatively cheap.  Perhaps ask your pharmacist for options first.

I think I overheard the lady at the insurance company say,
Eat $it and die, sucker.  8)

But it might have been;
sit down before I tell you your out-of-pocket costs and you die from a heart attack. 8)

Thanks for that. I did ask about the generic drugs and they are cheaper, BUT 20 years ago when I tried them for a few months they did not work. I ended up in an accident because I hadn't slept more than 4 hours a night for 2+ months.

Go and find you some MELATONIN pills. This is the actual body produced drug that helps you relax so you can sleep. I used to buy it at DOLLAR GENERAL (CHEAP) Walmart may carry it.
Read up on it on the NET!!!!!

Thanks, I will try that,
but the symptoms that prevent me sleeping are not initiating sleep,
but being woken up after a few hours by the symptoms.

It's like being slapped upside the head while in deep sleep.

What is really wierd is after the accident the symtoms disappeared for 20 years.

Get your prescription filled and shipped to you by a Canadian pharmacy.  My wife does that paying $65 for a prescription that costs $270 in the U.S.

PTSD? Do you wake up in cold sweats? Do you have nightmarish dreams just prior to waking up? If so, try L-Carnitine..

I have been dealing with the sleep problems similiar to what you describe. Exercise, caffine elimination, etc don't help

Took Ambien and it helps but can have nasty side effects.

But when I lost my job and insurance I had to stop taking it. I wake up most nights between 3:30 and 4am and can't get back to sleep before 2 hours or more.  Apnea doesn't seem to be a factor.

Sometimes your pancrease excrets insulin around this time waking you naturally, sometimes it is a problem with diabetes...

Melatonine 20mg doesn't help much for me as I am able to return to sleep maybe every 3-4 day but I wake up  every other night between those nights. I just try to roll with it and not get upset by it. Problem is I can't wake others so I have to just deal with it quietly and not be up and about when others are in the house.

Good luck!

Good one! Never even crossed my mind,
though
I am heading up to Montréal on sunday after reffing several soccer matches. I should ask the doctor if they can have it filled in Canada.
Thanks, really,
peace,
michel

Not PTSD, it a hereditary thing that males in the family sometimes suffer with.
Actually I researched my family tree back to 16xx when they were ceded land
in what is now Quebec City, Quebec, Canada and found not one person

ever served in any military combat thingy,
other than as medics.

Stay away from Canadian online pharmacies. They are providing Drugs from Asia and other places. I tried calling them and when i asked where they were coming from i got answers like Thailand.

OK, get a script from your Doc, you are in Vermont. Go across the border to a real Drugstore and have them fill it. US and Canada cross recognize each others prescriptions and even Medical licenses.

Get a 90 day script so you limit your trips. Canada negotiates with the drug companies on prices. Over here they can have their way with you. As you can plainly see.

If this drug works for you, and your particular condition, then don't go into home remedies.

Sounds very simular to what I have.

It's true. They are selling crap from offshore. I am not close enough to the Border or I would do it myself. I tried to get one of the guys in Canada to talk to their local small independent druggist and I would  get a script from my specialist and mail to the drug store with a check to cover the script and postage and they mail me the pills. Simple and legit. People acted like i was trying to score coke rather than Nexium.

The prescription drug we got from the Canadian pharmacy came from the U.K.  We made sure to check.  Depends on the drug I suppose.

No the Online "Canadian" Pharmacies buy from offshore wholesalers. Some online "Canadian" Pharmacies are not even Canadian. They open a call center in the Country to take orders. Some are very  shady and have been shut down. Some have been flagged by Customs and the stuff is seized.

If you go to a regular pharmacy in Canada you will get the same pills you will get in the US.

Since you can drive across the Border, just go to their version of CVS and get it filled.

Third world countries have better healthcare than this country; unless you have excellent insurance which most of cannot even begin to afford. My daughter recently had to have an abscess on her tonsil lanced. She was treated as an outpatient and was in for about 5 hours. The bill was for $10,000. Now they want to remove her tonsils, cost is $4,500. She is a British citizen and can fly return to London for $1,400. Including any train or taxi fares, and staying with family, she could save around $4,000. So I don't want to hear how "wonderful" American healthcare is, coz unless you are well off, you are screwed! I cannot think of a single civilized country in the world that sees nothing wrong with letting people suffer and die due to lack of money other than this one.
