Idle/ clank noise update
« on: May 18, 2013, 04:54:04 PM »
Today i istalled the stock exhaust took off the Mac, still have the pods.  Its quieter now but i have this clanking noise around 1200 rpm, i think its coming from the clutch side, i took out the dipstick and i could see the clutch hub..with a screwdriver i can move the clutch hub left/right 1/8th of an inch...is this normal or could the hub splines be worn ..gear behind does not move..

Sounds like the primary chain.

Common. No worries.  ;)

Put in gear and keeping the same revs, brake on ,let clutch out just enough to put a load on the engine..if the clanking goes away its the primary chain.......... .not normally a prob unless its REAL loud clanking...if the chain has too much slap it hits the case inside there...

Bit late last night for me to try that...what i did was lift rear wheel off the ground, put in first gear, move wheel back and forth with pressure putting load on the gears/primary chain..very little movement, thought there would be a lot of slop play in the chain, with the clanking i have. Did notice that over the years some owner split the cases on the engine, signs of sealant...i will do the load test on the engine today and post results..thanks

This morning i started the engine cold dipstick out....since i did the carb sync and idle mixture adj the engine runs like a sowing machine at 1000 rpm.  So its got the rattle seems like its coming from the clutch....pull clutch lever in....not so much noise....lever out clanky clank...
Idle first gear letting clutch out slowly putting load on the engine no noise...so guys what do you think...should i pull the clutch hub or forget about it..
